Tony, even though we only shared a few times together I remember those conversations distinctly. I can vividly recall the person that you are. Your friendliness and your eagerness to listen, contemplate together, and laugh will stand out in my mind for a long time to come. I can't imagine how much you will be missed by your loved ones and close friends, to whom I express my deep sympathy.

I wish to express my deepest sympathy on the loss of Tony. May you receive encouragement from Jesus’ words at John 5:28, 29 which says: “Do not be amazed at this, for the hour is coming in which all those in the memorial tombs will hear [Jesus’] voice and come out”. The words ‘memorial tombs’ suggest that Tony is in God’s memory until he has his Son, Jesus Christ, resurrect him. The Scriptures reassure us that God cannot lie, so when this resurrection takes place real soon, imagine how overjoyed you could be when you are reunited with Tony again. As you cherish fond memories of him, it is my desire that this promise comforts your grieving hearts.

I was shocked and saddened when I learned of Tony's passing. We had taken several graduate classes together, in which he always enlivened the conversations and didn't let weak arguments slide: he might continue the discussion even after class ended, or drop a joke with his characteristic grin to let us know he wasn't satisfied with an answer—often both. At a conference this past summer, people who had traveled from all over the world to Buffalo got to know and now remember Tony by his generosity and openness, as he was always first to offer rides to those from out of town and lend a hand in whatever way was needed. In our reading group, Tony always interrogated texts—not to mention the rest of us—to discover how the pursuit of knowledge and wisdom could be put to use to help those whose fortunes preclude the luxury of studying philosophy. I'll remember Tony for his insistence that people should always do better, and his willingness, equally as staunch, to engage those who don't.

Tony, our friendship goes further back than I can even remember. From driving my father crazy in Boy-scouts, to countless bus rides to Boces, dragging you out of your house virtually every day in the summers to play basketball, to watching WWE live in Toronto. I wish I had an opportunity to hang out with you just one last time to catch up and reminisce. Thank you for all the incredible memories and being the amazing friend & person you were. My heart goes out to you and your family.

Tony,
I can't even begin to say how shocked and heartbroken we all are to hear of your untimely passing. I will always remember you as one of the friendliest, most genuine, honest, and caring people I have ever had the privilege of knowing. You had a great heart, and a personality that left a lasting impression on those who encountered you. You were truly one of a kind. I would have been proud to call you my colleague in your continued education at UB, but instead, I am proud to have been able to call you a friend. I'm very glad that I had the chance to know you, even though I didn't know you for long. I will never be able to watch another episode of The Walking Dead without thinking of you. You will be sorely missed by all of us in the department, and by countless others in life.
My deepest condolences go to your family and friends.

To the family of Tony,
I am so sorry for your loss. Tony was an amazing, carefree, and nurturing spirit. I worked with Tony for over 5 years at Artpark. As the only girl behind the bar with Tony, he protected me like a brother. He was constantly making me laugh and truly cared about me. The memory of all the fun times we had together both at work and after work will never leave me. He truly is an amazing person who touched many people's lives. I know this is a very difficult time for you but just know his time here impacted many people's lives for the better.
"A great soul serves everyone all the time. A great soul never dies. It brings us together again and again." ~Maya Angelou
My thoughts and prayers are with you,
Caitlin Moreland

Tony, I remember the excitement and fascination in your eyes when I let you look over my copy of Kaczynski’s “Industrial Society and Its Future” while waiting for the class it was assigned for to start. I told you to keep it and remember who gave it to you when you wrote something brilliant because of it. You really were so passionate about exploring new ideas and hearing different perspectives. One only needed a few interactions with you to gather that much. I’m so sorry your journey through life was cut short – you will not be forgotten. My deepest condolences to your family and close friends.

Tony, you were one of the few people in the department with whom I interacted naturally. Your outspokenness and earnestness were a breath of fresh air and your passion for justice was invigorating. People like you are rare, and you will be missed.

Tony. You had a heart bigger than most. With sincere honesty and a joyful character, you managed to touch more souls than you probably know. You were a dear friend and a fellow philosopher. Many days and nights have we argued, but you finally got the last word. I'm grateful to have met a person who fought so earnestly for justice, equality and fairness. May there be peace wherever you are, my dear friend.
My deepest condolences goes to the family of Anthony Fay.

Tony was an important member of the graduate community at the University at Buffalo. He made many friends there, and was well-liked and admired for his humor, his modesty, the clarity and directedness of his public talks, and his passion for philosophy and politics. In our discussions, he frequently expressed concerns for the values of honesty, fairness, and equality, and he was quick to be dissatisfied with arguments and positions he felt were out-of-sync with these values, as well as philosophy that seemed too far away from the concerns of everyday life. He was friendly and quick to laugh, while also irreverent in the best sense of the term. I join my peers in being shocked and saddened to hear of his passing.

I worked with Tony at Old Navy years ago. He was such a fun guy to have around - one who worked hard and knew what was worth worrying about and what not to. I can't believe he's gone... My condolences to his family.

I offer my deepest condolences to the entire family. I knew Tony from UB and we were in many philosophy classes together, as well as reading groups, and I got to know him. I liked Tony; he was a good person who, I think, was trying to find his way in this world with a great desire to learn as much as he could, with honesty and perhaps even with innocence. No words that I am able to offer will help reduce the pain. I can only offer prayers for the entire family in these moments of grief.
