Harold Wiepert

December 24, 1927 — January 17, 2015

Harold J. Wiepert, age 87 of Ransomville, died Saturday January 17, 2015 in Our Lady of Peace Nursing Care Residence in Lewiston, after a lengthy illness. Harold was born December 24, 1927 in Niagara Falls, NY, the son of the late Louis and Mabel (Hecht) Wiepert, and was a lifelong resident of Ransomville. He graduated from Wilson High School in 1945. He married Ellen (Campbell) Wiepert on September 24, 1949 in St. Peter's Evangelical Lutheran Church at North Ridge. Ellen predeceased him on March 17, 2009. Harold started Wiepert's Service with his brother Gerald. After a short stay he and his brother Carl established Wiepert Brothers Builders. Together they built hundreds of homes and two churches in the Ransomville, Wilson, and Lockport areas. Harold later joined Carpenter's Union Local 280 in Lockport and worked on the Sommerset Power Plant. He was a member of the NRA, the 3 F Sportsman Club in Lewiston (where he shot both pistol archery) and the 7 Clan Archery Club. He was an avid hunter and fisherman. In the 1960's and 1970's he shot Tournament Archery and won several tournaments both local and state wide. He was always involved in something, He enjoyed Photography, breeding Huskies, snowmobiles, camping, boating, motorcycles, gardening, and collecting. When he was in his mid sixties, he built a new house for his wife, figuring it would be his last. He was an avid and highly skilled wood worker and carver and was more than happy to show and teach his talents. Harold was very active in St. Peter's Evangelical Lutheran Church at North Ridge. He sang in the choir, was a Steward, and did maintenance at the church. He seldom missed church and even after becoming disabled, he insisted on walking into church as long as it was possible. Harold will be remembered as being easy going. He enjoyed and loved helping children, teaching the skills he had, listening to their stories and problems, and giving them advice, all of which he did with tremendous patience. He is survived by a special nephew, Gerald Wiepert and his wife, Joyce of Ransomville; two brothers, Carl Wiepert (Nancy) of Lockport and Merton (late Gloria) Wiepert of Ransomville, a brother in law, Franklin (the late Sally) and Marlene Campbell of The Villages, FL; and many nieces and nephews.
