Obituary of Jimmy O. Shumate

Jimmy O. Shumate, age 62 of the Town of Niagara, died Saturday May 23, 2009 in Mount St. Mary's Hospital in Lewiston, after a lengthy illness.
Jimmy was born December 12, 1946 in Ivanhoe, VA, the son of the late Robert H. and Eula (Spears) Shumate and has lived in the Town of Niagara since 1951. He was an U.S. Air Force Veteran of Vietnam serving from 1965 to his honorable discharge with the rank of Sergeant in 1968. On June 20, 1970 he married Linda L. (Schafer) Shumate who predeceased him in 2004. Jimmy was employed as a Tow Motor Operator by Carbine Graphite in Niagara Falls, NY
for over 30 years, retiring in 1999. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and was an avid Buffalo Bills fan. Most of all he loved spending time with his family and grandchildren.
He is survived by three daughters, Katherine L. (Joseph) Furan of the Town of Niagara, Tracy (Daryl) Young of Jordan, NY, and Christine (Jolene) Martin-Shumate of Queensbury, NY; his
grandchildren, Robert, Nicholas, Matthew, Anthony, and Samantha; three brothers, Robert (Maxine) Shumate of Ransomville, Jack (Joann) Shumate of Niagara Falls, NY, and Frank (Carole) Shumate of the Town of Wheatfield; and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by two sisters, Margaret (William) Truesdale and Wilma (Donald) McMicking.
Friends may call at HARDISON FUNERAL HOME, 3648 Ransomville Rd., Ransomville on Tuesday from 2 - 4 and 7 - 9 PM. Funeral Services will be held Wednesday, May 27, at 11:00 AM in the funeral home. Burial will follow in the North Ridge Cemetery, Church Rd., Town of Cambria. Memorials maybe made to Niagara Hospice, 4675 Sunset Dr., Lockport, NY 14094.
