Obituary of Sarah Diez Lockhart

Sarah Diez Lockhart, 72, died January 2, 2015 under Hospice care in Wheatfield, NY. She was born July 5, 1942 to Russell and Mildred (Freeman) Diez in Youngstown, NY.
After graduating from Millard Fillmore School of Nursing, she joined the Army Nurse Corps and completed a Bachelors Degree in Nursing from the University of Virginia. While in the Army, Sarah completed two tours of active duty in Germany totaling six years and retired in October 1982 as a Lieutenant Colonel in the Army Nurse Corp returning to Colorado Springs, CO where she and her family lived for over 30 years. Sarah was a docent and major supporter of the Cheyenne Mountain Zoo. She also volunteered at the Colorado Springs Historical Museum and worked in their gift shop. Football was a favorite pastime, especially when cheering for the Denver Broncos.
She was predeceased by her husband, Robert B. Lockhart, whom she married in Charlottesville, Virginia on January 20, 1971. She is survived by her daughter, Ryann (Ray) Moore of Fayetteville, AK, and stepdaughters Jennifer (Dan) Foresman of Atco, NJ and Patricia (Robert) Wagner of Rogers, AK; and granddaughter Kelly (Kyle) Heffley of Egg Harbor City, NJ. Sarah was the sister of Margaret Diez of Niagara Falls, NY, Nancy (Paul) Orsi of Youngstown, NY and Ralph (Shelley) Dietz of Simsbury, CT. She is also survived by one niece and seven nephews.
Burial will be at Logan National Cemetery in Denver, CO.
