Obituary of Vera J. Allen

Vera J. Allen, age 87 of Lewiston passed away Saturday evening December 13, 2014 in Jenny's House at the Northgate Manor Health Care Facility in North Tonawanda, NY. Vera was born June 27, 1927 in Niagara Falls, Ontario, Canada, the daughter of the late Edward L. and Mabel (Misener) Elliott. She attended local schools in Ontario and earned her Secretarial Certification. On August 27, 1949 she married Alexander V. Allen and they moved to Lewiston in 1957. Vera had worked as church secretary for the former Lewiston Baptist Church for 40 years and is currently a member of the United Baptist-Christian Church in Lewiston. She volunteered with meals on wheels for 20 years and at Art Park for 15 years. Vera's greatest joy was her grandchildren. Her husband, Alexander, predeceased her on February 26, 2001. She is survived by her children, Judith L. (Will) Maggs of Youngstown and Richard A. (Cynthia Lee) Allen of Liverpool, NY; her grandchildren, Jennifer and Rachel Maggs, Caitlin (Jeremy) Auyer, Sarah (Christopher) Sullivan, Kelsey and Joshua (Charity) Allen; her great grandsons, Noah and Levi Sullivan; two sisters, Jean (William) Fear of Niagara Falls, Ontario and Norma (Benjamin) Fear of Guelph, Ontario. She was predeceased by two sisters, Evelyn Green and Marion Barley and two brothers, Clyde and Evan Elliott. Friends may call at HARDISON FUNERAL HOME, N. Fourth & Ridge Streets, Lewiston on Wednesday, December 17, from 10 to 11 AM. Funeral services will begin in the funeral home at 11:00 AM with the Rev.
