Gertrud Doody of Madison, CT died October 21, 2014 at the age of 97, surrounded by her family. She was married to the late William A. Doody Sr. She is survived by her Daughter Petra (Doody) O'Connor, Son-In-Law Chris O'Connor, Granddog Rosie O'Connor of Killingworth, CT, Stepson William A. (Patricia) Doody of Columbus OH (and Grandchildren.) Gertrud led a full, rich and interesting life. She was born May 29, 1917 in Hamburg Germany during WWI, and lived the majority of her early years in Wewelsfleth, Germany, a small shipbuilding village. She was a head cook in a hotel for a number of years. She emigrated from Germany to America in 1953 at the age of 36, where she was a Governess for a number of families in the New York City area. She met and married her (late) husband William A. Doody Sr. while vacationing in Niagara Falls, NY in 1960. They were married for 21 years. While in Niagara Falls and Lewiston NY, she was a member of the La Sertoma, and Lutheran Church of the Messiah. Later in life, she and her husband established, owned and operated a successful travel agency "Bill Doody Bus Tours" in Buffalo, NY. She moved to Connecticut in 2001, where she enjoyed time with family and drives along the beach. She is lovingly remembered by family, many wonderful caregivers and friends for her strength, humor, engaging personality and bright eyes. Gertud's family will be receiving friends in the Lutheran Church of The Messiah, 915 Oneida St., Lewiston on Saturday, November 1, from 9:30 am to 10:30 am. A Memorial Service will begin at 10:30 with the Rev. David Hoecker officiating. Burial will follow in North Ridge Cemetery, Church Rd. Town of Cambria. Arrangements have been entrusted to HARDISON FUNERAL HOME, N. Fourth & Ridge Streets, Lewiston.
