Obituary of Sidney G. Walton

Sidney G. Walton, age 92 of Lewiston, died Sunday September 14, 2014 at his home under the loving care of his family.
Sidney was born November 3, 1921 in Niagara Falls, Ontario, the eldest son of Frank and Dorothy (Mason) Walton of Southampton, England. He moved to Niagara Falls, NY and attended local city schools, graduating from LaSalle High School in 1940 after earning varsity letters in track and football.
He attended Colgate University on a football scholarship, but left to join the Royal Canadian Air Force as a pilot instructor, training pilots during WW II in Trent, Ontario and Battleford, Saskatchewan. He returned to graduate from Colgate in 1947. Sidney worked for DuPont for 31 years in various capacities including Safety Supervisor and Superintendent of Personnel in both Niagara Falls and Memphis, TN. He retired to Youngstown, NY where he sailed the lower Niagara River, Lake Ontario, and the St. Lawrence River on his beloved sailboat, Enchanter.
Sidney was a talented woodworker and wood carver, building homes for his family in Lewiston and Youngstown and creating beautiful furniture pieces and wood carvings to furnish them.
He leaves behind his loving wife and high school sweetheart of 70 years, Winifred (Wendt) Walton. He was a gentle and devoted father to Judith (James) Condino of Lewiston, Robbie (Larry) Krizan of Wilson, Bradley (Deborah) Walton of Houston, TX, Timothy (Kelly) Walton of Boise, ID, and Sidney Jr. "Skip" (Gayle) Walton of Lewiston. He is also survived by his grandchildren, Lisa, James, Joseph, and Nicholas; his great grandchildren, Anabella, Ava, Anthony, and Andrew; his cherished siblings, brother Gerald (late Rita) Walton and sister Dorothy (late James) Baker both of Sarasota, FL. He was also predeceased by two brothers, Douglas and Ronald Walton.
A Memorial Service will be held at the Lutheran Church of The Messiah, 915 Oneida St., Lewiston on Saturday, October 4, at 2:00 pm. Memorials may be made to the Lewiston Volunteer Fire Co. #1 Ambulance Fund, 145 N. 6th St. PO Box 748, Lewiston, NY 14092. Arrangements have been entrusted to HARDISON FUNERAL HOME, N. Fourth & Ridge Sts., Lewiston.
