Obituary of Martha Ella Clark

Martha Ella Clark, age 93 of Youngstown, died Saturday May 17, 2014 in Buffalo General Hospital after a lengthy illness.
Martha was born June 20, 1920 in Indianapolis, IN, the daughter of the late Clarence and Marion (Brown) Merritt of White Plains, NY. She graduated from Horace Greeley High School in Chappaqua, NY. In 1943 she graduated from Earlham College, Indiana majoring in Sociology and English. Martha was Executive Director of the Girl Scouts of Mt. Clements, Michigan from 1945 to 1948 and served in same capacity in Rahway, NJ. She married Nathan Irish Clark in 1953 and moved to Youngstown. Nathan predeceased her in 1992.
Martha was secretary of the First Presbyterian Church of Youngstown for over 20 years working for James Aiken, Charles Stratton, and many interim pastors. A member of the Church as well she had also served as an active deacon. She also worked as secretary treasurer for the Oakland Rural Cemetery for many years. Throughout her years in Youngstown Martha was active in many organizations, the Civic Guild; Tuesday Group, Youngstown Senior Citizens, Youngstown Garden Club, Youngstown Historical Society, and the Order of Eastern Star Ransomville Chapter #374.
She is survived by three daughters, Wendy-Ann Clark of Forest Grove , OR, Candace (Duane) Schultz of Homestead, FL, and Cheryl Sterner of South Bend , IN; two step sons, Nathan I. Clark of Lenexa, KS and Ronald Clark of Sparta, MO; a step daughter, Margo Clark Drezen of Lincoln, NB; 10 grandchildren, 9 great grandchildren. She was predeceased by three sons, Kirk Merritt Kenney, William Arthur Kenney, infant son, Bruce Allan Clark, and a sister, Doris Mancusco.
A Memorial Service will be held Thursday, May 29, at 10:00 AM in the First Presbyterian Church of Youngstown, 100 Church St., Youngstown, with the Rev. Rex Stewart officiating. Flowers are greatfully declined. Memorials may be made to the First Presbyterian Church of Youngstown
