Obituary of Janet M. Bennett

Janet M. Bennett of Reno, NV, age 79, formerly of Lewiston, passed away peacefully on April 9th in the care of her daughter Karen, and with her loving family at her side. Janet was born on April 18, 1934 in Niagara Falls, N.Y., the daughter of Jean and Norman MacNeil. She married Albert Bennett on September 26, 1953 and they resided on Ridge Road in Lewiston for over 40 years, raising three children on a steady diet of camping trips, fishing, and tomato growing. Albert predeceased her on December 20, 1994. Janet grew up in Belden Center, attended the Nevada Avenue school and graduated from Niagara Falls High School, making many friendships along the way that endure to this day. She had a distinguished career as a professional secretary, which culminated as the administrative assistant to several Presidents of Niagara County Community College. She served as President of the local chapter of the National Secretary's Association, where she mentored many aspiring professionals. She was also a founding member of the 6F Club, an organization devoted to fishing, Lake Buckhorn, and camaraderie. Janet was a former member of the Methodist Church in Niagara Falls. She loved playing bridge with friends, was an accomplished bowler at Frontier Lanes, and a loyal fan of her beloved Buffalo Bills and Sabres. And, she loved to travel, seeing the country by planes, trains and automobile; and Europe by boat. Janet is survived and dearly beloved by her family, including her daughter Karen (Mike Reed of Reno, NV), and sons Allen (Las Vegas, NV) and Bill (Joan of Spokane, WA); four grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; her brother James MacNeil (JoAnne of Niagara Falls); and many nieces and nephews. She is also predeceased by her brother Norman (Helena of San Antonio, TX). A Memorial Service will be held Saturday, April 26, at 11:00 AM in the HARDISON FUNERAL HOME, N. Fourth & Ridge Sts., Lewiston, with the Rev. Charles Lamb officiating.
