Obituary of Raymond W. Garis

Raymond W. Garis, age 62 of Youngstown, died Sunday March 16, 2014 in the Schoellkopf Health Center in Niagara Falls, after a short illness. Raymond was born May 27, 1951 in Niagara Falls, NY, the son of the late Raymond B. and Theresa A. (Lemieux) Garis. He was a 1970 graduate of Niagara Wheatfield High School and served in the U.S. Marine Corps from 1970 to 1971. Raymond was employed as a Bus Driver for Ransomville Bus Lines for 5 years before illness caused him to retire in 2013. Previous to that he had worked at Carrier Coach in Buffalo and at PAR Industries in Amherst. Raymond married Gloria Diem on October 27, 1990. He loved hunting and fishing. He is survived by his wife, Gloria, his children, Heather R. (Christopher) Meidenbauer and Theresa A. Garis both of Charlotte, NC, Rebecca R. Garis of Richmond, VA, and Christopher R. Garis of Youngstown; his grandchildren, Colby, Rihanna, and Zayden; a brother, Kenneth (Lynn) Garis of Newfane; a sister, Donna (Michael) Walczak of Charlotte, NC; and his mother in law, Catherine Diem of Ransomville. A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, April 19, at 11:00 AM in the O. Leo Curtiss American Legion Post #830, Youngstown Lockport Rd., Ransomville. There will be no prior visitation. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Roswell Park Cancer Institute, PO Box 631, Buffalo, NY 14240-9856.
