Gordon Charles Ortt, age 92, of the Town of Niagara passed away from this life on Wednesday March 5, 2014, at his residence under the loving care of his family and Niagara Hospice. He was born August 3, 1921 in Pekin, NY, the son of the late Charles and Carrie (Hillman) Ortt. A decorated WW II U.S. Army Veteran, Gordon enlisted in 1942 and served his country as a Military Police officer as part of the 345th Engineer Regiment General Service both stateside and in Italy. He received a head wound in Anzio during a regular artillery shelling by the Germans, known as "Anzio Annie." He was the recipient of the Good Conduct Medal, the American Service Medal, the European-African-Middle Eastern Service Medal with one bronze star, the WW II Victory Medal, the Honorable Service Lapel Button, the Sharpshooter Badge and the Carbine Bar. He was honorable discharged as a Cpl in 1946. He was a Mechanic and Truck Driver by trade. There wasn't anything he couldn't fix. In his younger years he enjoyed square dancing and was an avid hunter until the age of 86. He enjoyed Bingo and was friends with many of his fellow bingo players at Active Hose Fire Hall. Gordon was often found in his garden, growing vegetables for canning. He really enjoyed being outdoors in the sun. He is survived by his wife, Carol (nee Keith) (Moretti) Ortt. They would have celebrated 50 years of marriage on April 9, 2014. He is also survived by his children, Charles "Chuck" (Darlene) Ortt of Bel Air, MD, Terry (Kenny) Tompkins and Mark (Julia) Moretti both of Niagara Falls, NY, and Cynthia Innocenti of Canada; his grandchildren, Christina (James), Chuck (Cindy), Earl (Rebecca), Tim, Samantha, Callahan, Michael, Irene, Jennifer, Jeremy, Lindsey, Rachel, and Katie; a brother, Milford (Ruth) Ortt; his sisters, Charlotte Stoner-DeLorenzo, Betty Tuttle, Annabelle DiNicolantonio, and Carol Brown. Also survived by several great grandchildren, cousins, nieces and nephews . He was predeceased by a son, John Ortt; a sister, Bertha Roberts; and three brothers, Donald, Jim, and Ron Ortt. Gordon also leaves behind a wealth of knowledge for his children and grandchildren. From how to break down motors to his little special songs we will remember him and smile. He also leaves behind his friend David Barry and his Sunday Breakfast and world problem solving best friend, Dave Boorom. Friends may call at HARDISON FUNERAL HOME, 3648 Ransomville Road, Ransomville on Sunday from 2 - 6 pm. Funeral Services will be held Monday, March 10, at 10:00 AM in the funeral home, with Pastor Lee Holliday officiating. Burial with Military Honors will follow in the North Ridge Cemetery, Church Rd., Town of Cambria. Memorials may be made to Niagara Hospice, 4675 Sunset Dr., Lockport, NY 14094.
