Obituary of Irven H. Rolfe

Irven H. Rolfe, age 89 of Model City NY, died Friday November 27, 2009 at his residence under the loving care of his family and Niagara Hospice.
Irven was born May 23, 1920 in Pennsgrove, NJ, the son of the late Herman D. and Betsy (Robinson) Rolfe and has lived here for over 60 years. He was an U.S. Army veteran of WW II. Irven served in the Army from Jan. of 1942 to Sept. of 1945 when he was honorably discharged with the rank of T-5. He was a heavy machine gunner with Company C of the 7th Engineering Battalion and took part in the Ardennes, Central Europe, Normandy, Northern France, and Rhineland Campaigns. Irven was the recipient of the European-African-Middle Eastern Campaign Medal and Ribbon with 1 Silver Service Star, the WW II Victory medal and Ribbon, and the Good Conduct Medal. In 1947 he married Edna M. (Crewe) Rolfe who predeceased him on June 22, 1981.
Irven was a Payloader Operator for National Carbon Co. in Niagara Falls for over 30 years, retiring in 1984. He was a member of the V.F.W. Down River Post #7487 in Lewiston. Irven enjoyed gardening, horseshoes, playing cards, hunting, and reading.
He is survived by a son, Ronald Rolfe (fiancé Lois Charsley) of Niagara Falls; a daughter, Edna (Jack) Strope of Youngstown; his grandchildren, Dawn Strope and Stacey Walker; his great grandchildren, Tyler, Anthony, and Nicholas Walker; a sister, Louise Nelson of Niagara Falls; and his special friends, Dana VanDenBosch and Paige Cassatt. He was predeceased by a son, Edward Rolfe; three brothers, Donald, Edward, and Stuart Rolfe, and two sisters, Marion Eddy and Thelma Piper.
Friends may call at HARDISON FUNERAL HOME, N. Fourth & Ridge Streets, Lewiston on Sunday from 3 - 8 pm. Funeral Services will be held Monday, November 30, at 11:00 AM in the funeral home, with the Rev. Mark Auernhamer officiating. Burial with military honors will follow in Niagara Falls Memorial Park Cemetery, Military Rd., Lewiston. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Lewiston Volunteer Fire Co. #1 Ambulance Fund, 145 N. 6th St. P.O. Box 748, Lewiston, NY 14092 or to Niagara Hospice, 4675 Sunset Dr., Lockport, NY 14094.
