Obituary of Gerald L. Condren, Sr.

Gerald L. Condren, Sr., age 79 of Youngstown, died unexpectedly on Friday January 24, 2014 in Mt. St. Mary's Hospital in Lewiston.
Jerry was born October 9, 1934 in Niagara Falls, NY, the son of the late Lawrence and Mary (Haag) Condren and was a graduate of Youngstown High School. He served in the U.S. Navy from 1952 to 1954 in Pensacola, FL. Jerry began his civilian career with the Niagara Mohawk Power Company as a meter reader. In 1991 he retired after 30 years from the New York State Power Authority as a Supervising Electrical Foreman. Jerry married Pamela E. DeRusha on October 7, 1961. Pamela predeceased him on August 23, 2009.
As a teenager, Jerry did a lot of fishing and during good weather took out fishing parties in his father's boat. He was considered to be one of the authorities on the history of and fishing in the Niagara River and Lake Ontario. His love of fishing continued throughout his life and he had taken numerous fishing trips into Northern Canada, including Yellowknife in the Northwest Territories. Jerry spent almost his entire life in Youngstown, he in later years, traveled many times to Ireland and spent considerable time exploring that country.
He was a member of the 3 - F Conservation Club, the V.F.W. Lake Ontario Post #313 in Youngstown, and the V.F.W. Post in Canesteo, NY.
He is survived by his son, Gerald L. Condren, Jr. of Youngstown, and his sister, Margaret Ann "Margie" Briem of California. He was predeceased by his brother, Arthur J. Condren.
Services will be private at the convenience of the family. There will be no visitation. Memorials may be made to the Youngstown Volunteer Fire Co. Ambulance Fund, PO Box 387, Youngstown, NY 14174. Arrangements have been entrusted to the HARDISON FUNERAL HOME, N. Fourth & Ridge Streets, Lewiston
