Joan LaRock Forgione, age 82 of Sanborn died Monday January 20, 2014 in Mt. St. Mary's Hospital in Lewiston.
Joan was born January 18, 1932 in Niagara Falls, NY, the daughter of the late John and Natalie (Marshall) LaRock. She was a graduate of Sacred Heart Elementary School and Stella Niagara High School. Key Punch Operation was in its' infancy when Joan took a course in it at Stella Niagara and won first honors by scoring the highest in her class. She began her working career as a key punch operator at Moore Business Forms and then at Carborundum Co. Joan then taught Kindergarten at Sacred Heart Elementary School before working for Dunlop Tire in North Tonawanda and at Syracuse University for 4 years. When she returned to the Niagara Region she taught Kindergarten at St. Joseph's Elementary School in Niagara Falls until her retirement. Joan also was a piano teacher and was the organist at Lady of Lebanon RC Church in Niagara Falls for 35 years and at Immaculate Conception RC Church in Ransomville for 8 years.
She married Angelo Forgione on August 29, 1969 and assisted him in the operation of their business, Amity Antiques.
Joan was a member of Immaculate Conception RC Church in Ransomville and a member of the Church's Altar Rosary Society. She was an avid Buffalo Bills fan.
She is survived by her loving husband, Angelo; three sons, Tim (Carolyn) Stack of Orlando, FL, Danny Stack of Sanborn, and Michael (Theresa) Forgione of Pennsylvania.; nine grandchildren, (2 very special grandchildren, Andrew and Maria); six great grandchildren; a sister, Natalie LaRock Warren of Ocala, FL; several nieces, nephews, loving cousins, and her very faithful dog, Casanova.
A Memorial Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday, February 1, at 10:00 AM in Immaculate Conception RC Church, 4671 Townline Rd. (Rte. 429) Ransomville, with the Rev. James Bastian officiating. There will be no prior visitation. It was Joan's wish that her remains be donated to the Anatomical Gift Program at the University of Buffalo. Memorials may be made to the Niagara County SPCA, 2100 Lockport Rd., Niagara Falls, NY 14304 or to Immaculate Conception RC Church. Arrangements have been entrusted to HARDISON FUNERAL HOME, 3648 Ransomville Rd. Ransomville, NY.
