Obituary of Catherine McAuliffe Lavery

Catherine M. Lavery, a former resident of Niagara Falls, NY died on Saturday November 9, 2013 in Camden, South Carolina after a brief illness. She was 88. Born on January 11, 1925 in Welland, Ontario, Canada. She was the daughter of William and Mary McAuliffe. She graduated from St. Michael's Hospital School of Nursing in Toronto, Ont. and Sacred Heart Dominican College in Houston, Texas. Mrs. Lavery had a distinguished career at Niagara Falls Memorial Medical Center, serving as director of inservice education, director of nursing and retiring as vice president for patient care services. She married Nalo L. Lavery in Niagara Falls, NY and he predeceased her on December 8, 1986. Following her husband's death, Catherine moved to Bal Harbour, Florida and later to Rembert, South Carolina where she lived with family on Fenwick Farm, an equestrian training center. She was a former member of Sacred Heart Church in Niagara Falls and a member of the Memorial Medical Center Corporation and Legacy Society. She volunteered for Heart, Love and Soul, Inc. in Niagara Falls. In Camden, she was a member of Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church and volunteered at the Christian Community Ministries for many years.. She was the beloved sister of Mary Ellen McEwan of Rembert, SC and aunt of Wilhelmina and Fred McEwan of Fenwick Farm, Rembert, Mary McEwan of Louisville, Ky, Judy Girard of Oakville, Ontario, Michael McAuliffe of Chicago, IL, Margot and Muffie McAuliffe of Toronto, Ontario, Malia McAuliffe of Prince Edward Island and the great aunt of Brett and Monique Girard of Toronto, Ontario and Victoria McEwan of Lexington, KY and Simon and Keegan McAuliffe of Chicago, IL. She also was a dear special friend of Patty and Rick Berggren of Youngstown, NY. In addition to her parents and husband, Mrs. Lavery was predeceased by brothers Michael, William and Anthony McAuliffe. A rosary service and Mass of Christian were held in Camden, SC. The committal service for family and friends will be held Friday November 15, at 11:00 am in the Gate of Heaven Cemetery Chapel, 500 Riverdale Avenue, Lewiston, with the Rev. Msgr. David G. LiPuma officiating. Donations in Catherine's memory may be made to the Schoellkopf Park Beautification Fund c/o the Memorial Medical Center Foundation, PO Box 708, Niagara Falls, NY 14302 or the Christian Community Ministries, 110 E. Dekalb St., Camden, SC 29020. Local funeral arrangements are entrusted to HARDISON FUNERAL HOME, N. Fourth & Ridge Streets, Lewiston.
