Lloyd Strope

Lloyd M. Strope, age 86 of Niagara Falls NY, died Thursday October 31, 2013 in the VA Medical Center in Buffalo. Lloyd was born March 31, 1927 in Smithfield, PA, the son of the late Levi and Aurilla (Foster) Strope. He enlisted in the U.S. Army at the age of 17 in 1944 and served as a combat infantryman in the 9th Infantry. He took part in the Rhineland and Central Europe Campaigns and was the recipient of the European African Middle Eastern Service Medal, the Good Conduct Medal, the Army of Occupation Medal Germany, and the WW II Victory Medal. Lloyd was honorably discharged with the rank of PFC in July of 1946. In 1948 he married Helen M. Fleming and they lived in Niagara Falls before moving to Wilson in 1973. Helen predeceased him in 1982 and Lloyd returned to the Falls in 1984. Lloyd was employed as a clerk for Bell Aerospace/Textron in Wheatfield for 30 years retiring in 1983. He will be remembered for his great sense of humor. He is survived by a daughter, Sandra Onofrio of Niagara Falls, NY; two sons, Jack (Edna) Strope of Lewiston and Joseph Strope of Tonawanda; his companion of 30 years I. Louise Nelson and her daughters, Cindy and the late Noralee.; and eight grandchildren and eight great grandchildren. He was predeceased by six brothers and sisters. Private services with Military Honors will be held at Niagara Falls Memorial Park Cemetery, Lewiston. Arrangements have been entrusted to HARDISON FUNERAL HOME, N. Fourth & Ridge Streets, Lewiston.
