James S. King, age 74, died Thursday October 17, 2013 in the Niagara Rehabilitation and Nursing Center in Niagara Falls, NY, following a long illness. James was born May 22, 1939 in Franklinville, NY, the son of the late Hugh and Marjorie (Hoag) King. He was in the first graduating class of Starpoint High School in 1958. James served in the U.S. Army from 1961 to 1964 and was stationed in Texas when President Kennedy was assassinated. He worked for Metal Cladding Tonawanda for many years before retiring due to a disability. James was an avid NASCAR fan, attending many races over the years. He also enjoyed going to Country and Western Concerts seeing "all the greats" from the Country Hall of Fame. He is survived by two daughters, Roni (Todd) Rice of Ransomville and Suzanne King of Tonawanda; his grandchildren, Michael (Renee) Rice, Christina (Jeremy) Prohaska, Timothy and Jake Rice all of Ransomville, and Nicholas King of Tonawanda; a great grandchild, Joseph Prohaska; a sister, Dorothy (late Richard) Stopa of Lockport; four brothers, Jerry (Marge) King and Douglas (Sharon) Mettler of Niagara Falls, NY, Frank (Sandra) Mettler of Ransomville, and Charles (Marian) Mettler of Appleton, NY; and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a son, Michael in 1968, and a sister, Barbara Kramer. Friends may call at HARDISON FUNERAL HOME, 3648 Ransomville Rd., Ransomville on Sunday, October 20, from 4 - 7 pm. Funeral services will begin at 7:00 pm in the funeral home, with the Rev. Charles Lamb officiating. Burial will be private in Acacia Park Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, Memorials may be made to a charity of one's choice.
