Ida Lombardi, age 84 of Lewiston, died Tuesday October 8, 2013 in Mt. St. Mary's Hospital in Lewiston, after a brief illness..
Ida was born September 9, 1929 in Ceprano, Frosinone, Italy, the daughter of the late Rocco and Maria (Palleschi) D'Amico. On January 17, 1949 she married Vincent "Vinnie" Lombardi. They immigrated to Detroit in 1958 and moved to Niagara Falls, NY in 1959. In 1972 Ida and her family moved to Lewiston. Her beloved husband of 60 years, Vinnie, died on April 2, 2009.
Ida was a communicant of St. Peter's RC Church in Lewiston. As her husband was, Ida was an avid vegetable and flower gardener. She and Vinnie had made multiple trips to Italy to visit family and for the past 30 years she had spent the winter in Deerfield Beach, FL. A traditional Italian wife, she loved cooking and baking for her family and friends and was affectionately known as the "Chief Pizelle Maker" Above all she loved and was devoted to her family.
She is survived by a daughter, Filomena (Robert) Yankelunas; a daughter in law, Suzanne Lombardi (Ed Caluori); her grandchildren, Teresa Lombardi, Vincent J. Lombardi, III, Patrick Yankelunas, and Andrea Rotella-Diez (Cory); her great grandchildren, Karrigan, Allison, and Julia Rotella, Lexie and Alyssa Diez; a brother, Fernando (Rose) D'Amico; a sister in law, Rosina D'Amico; and a brother in law, Renato Palleschi and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by a son, Major Vincent J. Lombardi, Jr. in 2003; a brother, Frank D'Amico; and a sister, Josephine Palleschi.
Friends may call at HARDISON FUNERAL HOME, N. Fourth & Ridge Streets, Lewiston on Friday from 2 - 4 and 7 - 9 PM. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday, October 12, at 11:00 AM in St. Peter's RC Church, 600 Center St., Lewiston, with the Rev. Msgr. David G. LiPuma and the Rev. Michael Mateyk officiating. (Please assemble at Church)
Entombment will follow in Gate of Heaven Cemetery, Holy Angels Mausoleum, Lewiston. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Fisher House Foundation, (Walter Reed Medical Center location) 111 Rockville Pike Suite 420, Rockville, MD 20850-5000 (This foundation offers assistance to military families whose loved ones are being treated)
