Obituary of Robert F. Burtwell

Robert Frederick Burtwell, age 101 of Ransomville died Sunday September 22, 2013 in Medina Memorial Hospital after a brief illness. Robert was born November 11, 1911 in St. Catharine's Ontario, Canada, the son of the late Robert M. and Eva (Anderson) Burtwell and lived in the Niagara Region of Ontario until moving to Ransomville in 1964. On August 20, 1934 he married Mabel V. Girard in Ransomville. Mabel predeceased him in 1997. Robert retired as Warehouse Foreman from Pfeiffer Foods in Wilson in 1974 after 17 years of service. Robert was a former member of the Odd Fellow Cataract Lodge # 103 in Niagara Falls, Ontario. He enjoyed his farm and playing cards on Saturday Night. He was a great storyteller and enjoyed being with people and family gatherings. He also enjoyed big band dancing, square dancing, and fishing. In his younger years he played softball, hardball and was a member of a cribbage league. He is survived by a son, Robert G. (Margaret) Burtwell of Lyndonville, NY; his grandchildren, Andrew Burtwell and Kathryn Evans; his great grandchildren, Lexus, Rody, Tony, and Daisy; a sister: Marjorie Faragher of Niagara Falls, ON; and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by five sisters, Ethel Troup, Mabel Lampman, Helen Caton, Eva Bernier, and Dora Ressler; and two brothers, Howard and Walter Burtwell. Friends may call at HARDISON FUNERAL HOME, 3648 Ransomville Road, Ransomville on Friday from 4 - 8 PM. Funeral Services will be held Saturday, September 28, at 11:00 am in the funeral home, with the Rev. Charles Lamb officiating. Burial will follow in North Ridge Cemetery, Church Rd. Town of Cambria.
