Ronald M. Kozar, age 76 of Youngstown, passed away on Sunday, August 25, 2013 Roswell Park Cancer Institute in Buffalo, after a brief illness.
Ron was born June 29, 1937 in Sewickley, PA, the son of the late Edward and Mary (Kucell) Kozar. In 1959 he graduated from State Teachers College, Edinboro, PA with a Bachelor of Science in Education (Mathematics and Speech). He later received his Masters of Science in Education from Canisius College in Buffalo.
Ron began teaching at Lewiston Porter Central School in 1959. His career spanned 40 years, retiring in 1999. During his tenure at Lew-Port, Ron was the Director of Continuing Education for 30 years and the Junior High Drama Coach for 24 years. Ron also worked part time as a senior tour guide at the Power Vista for the NYPA for 45 years. Most recently, Ron was a tour guide at Old Fort Niagara; drove the Youngstown Senior Citizen Van; and delivered meals for the Office of the Aging in Youngstown.
He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Youngstown where he sang in the choir, was a member of the Fix-It-Club, and served as an Elder. Ron enjoyed playing euchre, golfing with friends, going on family cruises, and neighborhood poker parties.
He is survived by his wife, Gwendolyn (Harrison) whom he married December 14, 1957; his children, Douglas (Rose) Kozar of North Tonawanda, NY, Gregory (Michele) Kozar of Libertyville, IL, and Tracey Kozar (Michael) Inskeep of St. Paul, MN; his grandchildren, Andrew (Jaimie), Gina, Matthew, Mark, and John Kozar; Maxwell, Zachery, and Carter Inskeep; his great grandchildren: Hayden Kozar, and Mia Kozar who was born the day before his passing; two sisters in law, Nancy Kozar and Gretchen Harrison; and a niece and a nephew. He was predeceased by his brother, Edward Kozar.
Friends may call at HARDISON FUNERAL HOME, N. Fourth & Ridge Streets, Lewiston on Friday from 4 - 8 pm. Funeral Services will be held Saturday, August 31, at 11:00 AM in the First Presbyterian Church of Youngstown, 100 Church St., Youngstown, with the Rev. Rex Stewart and the Rev. Charles Lamb officiating. Burial will be private in Oakland Rural Cemetery. Youngstown. In lieu of flowers, Memorials may be made to the First Presbyterian Church of Youngstown Music Program, the Fix It Club, or the Deacon's, 100 Church St., Youngstown, NY 14174.
