Dear Kozar Family,
My thoughts and prayers are with you during your time of grief. I wish I was nearby and could attend the service. I have so may fond memories of Mr. Kozar. I had 9th grade algebra in the period following lunch, which can be difficult to stay awake. Mr. Kozar taught algebra in a way that was entertaining as well as informative. Perhaps too entertaining, as I recall the April Fools Day class where we used many of the tricks he had told us about what previous students had done. Doug was in that class and I can't forget the look on Ron's face when he saw Doug knocking on the window from outside. As I frequently used algebra in my business career, I thought of him often. But most of my memories are of the many productions we worked on together to the JR High Drama club, both when I was in JR High, and on the stage crew in SR High. Ron brought out the best in the students in these productions, and worked long hours to make those productions successful. He was a mentor to me throughout my Lew-Port years, and I still miss his arched eyebrow. He made a difference in the lives of so many students. May you all find peace in the recognition of the fullness of his life.

To the Kozar Family,
My deepest heartfelt sympathy goes out to each of you in your time of sorrow. Mr Kozar was one of my favorite teachers at Lewiston Porter. His way of teaching, his humor, his kind understanding demeanor is how all teachers should run their classes. I learned more from him than any other teacher due to his way of teaching. He will be greatly missed by all whose lives were touched by such an amazing warm man. The community has lost a special individual but we have all gained a new angel. Fly free Mr. Kozar and watch over your family and those you touched over the years. Rest in peace.

Dear Gwen and Family,
I am so very sorry to hear of Ron's passing. I learned when Jerry passed away how very hard it is; even if you know it is coming. Your wonderful family has left many memories for my family. Our children grew up together and enjoyed being neighbors. I wish we were closer. You have my prayers and knowing that Ron is in the care of our Lord.
May God be with you,

I had the pleasure of working w/ Ron @ the Power Authority many years ago. I started in security so I met him in the Power Vista during my weekend shifts. He was always friendly and respectable to me and he knew his history of our plant! He was one tour guide I enjoyed seeing on my shift. I am sorry for your loss and will pray for you to have strength to get you through this tough time. Sincerely, Lisa C.

Dear Kozar family, I am so sorry for your loss. - I was just talking about Mr. Kozar the other day - we were having a conversation about great teachers....... Remember algebra and Some Old Horse Caught Another Horse Taking Oats Away? I had to use that formula many times - even taught it to my machinists when they had to use algebra to figure out how to make things.... He was an incredible teacher and most importantly, a wonderful human being. He was our rock in those weird middle to high school years. Mr. Kozar made a difference!

I would like to extend heartfelt condolences to the Kozar family. Mr. Kozar was an outstanding teacher. He had the unique ability to capture your attention, recognize your strengths, boost your confidence and make learning fun. He was my teacher over thirty years ago and what I learned from him helped build the foundation for the rest of my education. He will be sadly missed and always remembered.

To the entire Kozar Family. John and I both had the pleasure of meeting your "Dad". Once at a wedding and once on a fishing trip. Both wonderful, happy experiences. An example of the legacy he will leave for everyone. What Mr. Kozar was to me; he was more than a math teacher who never gave up on me. He met with me during study halls and stayed after countless hours to attempt to spark something in me. Not being math oriented, he did what he had to do to get me through. I thank him for that. I didn’t have him for a teacher in my senior year but he made his presence known. He knew the high school years had been trying for me, losing my father the summer before sophomore year and my mom just prior to my senior year. I never knew my guardian angel walked the Earth with me, and I thank him for that.
Mr. Kozar was always good for a hug, when it was becoming taboo for teachers to show physical support and reassurance to students, he didn’t care, and I thank him for that. He always asked if I needed anything, to talk, extra help, and always let me know he was there for me. I wasn’t his child, I wasn’t related by any means, I wasn’t his smartest student, I was a kid who was going through a bad spell and he took time to always give me moments of that time to let me know there were people who cared, and I thank him for that. The day I graduated high school, there was a knock on my door, Mr. Kozar was there with a smile, a small gift, a hug and as always words of encouragement. He presented me with my diploma and made that day bearable for me, and I thank him for that.
It has come to my attention, something extraordinary Mr. Kozar did for me, I just found out about today, and I wish I would’ve known years ago. After my mom died before my senior year, I was in jeopardy of becoming a ward of the court. Apparently Mr. Kozar wrote a letter to the courts explaining why it would be more beneficial for me to stay with my siblings than become a ward of the court. This is testament to the type of person Mr. Kozar was, willing to help those in need without taking any credit for his actions. I wonder how my life would’ve been different if I would’ve been separated from my siblings when I needed them most. He always said “happiness above all and he had a big part in making sure my life was happy, and I thank him for that. I was recently able to spend some time with him, to hear him laugh, to see that twinkle in his eye even though he was unsure what he was facing, and to get a hug. I will treasure that moment for all my days, and I thank him for that.

Mr. Kozar was one of my all-time favorite teachers. He was a fantastic math teacher, a wonderful drama club coach, and one of the nicest guys I've ever met. He made a very big difference to my Lew-Port experience, and I'll never forget him. I'm sure every student lucky enough to have had him for a teacher feels the same way.

As a classmate of Ron's back in Leetsdale, Pennsylvania schools, I knew then that Ron would become a great teacher and role model for his students. He was a kind person from the start, even when others weren't. It's from that same love and care of another classmate (Elsie Easter) that those of us from the high school class of 1955 got personal phone calls to hear of Ron's passing but more important, to share memories of Ron and how he made us laugh and laugh (into tears) at our reunions. We could only imagine his tour bus passengers laughing as hard as we did. Our deepest sympathy to dear Gwen and the entire family. RIP to the most special guy named Ron Kozar. Love from Dave and Marylou Beatty (class of 1960) MacDonald.

Dear Kozar Family,
Sorry to hear about Ron's passing, though he will always be Mr. Kozar to me. I think we all have that handful of teachers in our lives that made a difference, and he was at the top of my list. From teaching me algebra to how to apply theatrical make-up, to running the continuing ed program, to meeting my husband and kids while he was working at the Power Vista he was always high in positive spirit. I am a better person for knowing him, and he always made it easy to smile when you were with him. I hope your memories of him continue to make you smile.

Ron Kozar was my favorite teacher of all time! I am so saddened by his passing. He made mathematics so much fun and I still have the "thread designs" I made in his class back in 1961-62. Not only was he a wonderful teacher, but he was a wonderful human being. He will be missed. Ron, say Hi to my Dad for me. If there is bowling in Heaven, you two can be on the same team again. My deepest condolences to the family.

To the Kozar family, my deepest sympathies at this time. Mr. Kozar was a wonderful teacher. He was my favorite teacher at Lewis-Port. He made me want to learn because he made learning fun and if you had a problem he was always there to help you out. He was what a teacher should be to me. He had a wonderful sense of humor while he was teaching, maybe that is what made it so easy to learn from him. I know he will be greatly missed by future generations that will not have the honor to have him as a teacher. My thoughts and prayers are with you at this time.
