Harold William "Joe" Dick, age 82 of Lewiston, died Sunday August 11, 2013 in Mt. St. Mary's Hospital in Lewiston after a brief illness.
Joe was born May 23, 1931 in Niagara Falls, NY, the son of the late Harold L. and Jean (Hepburn) Dick. He was a 1949 graduate of Niagara Falls High School and had attended Bowling Green University from 1949 to 1952 at which time he entered the U.S. Navy. Joe was honorably discharged in 1955 and continued to serve in the U.S. Navy Reserves until 1961. Joe retired in 1986 as an Associate Vice President and Public Relations Officer for Niagara Permanent Savings & Loan Association in Niagara Falls, NY. After his retirement, Joe worked at the Village Hardware in Lewiston.
Joe was a member of and Past President of the Mt. St. Mary's Hospital Board of Associates; a member of the Niagara Frontier Country Club; and a member of the New Zion Evangelical Presbyterian Church in Niagara Falls. Joe had also served on the Board of Directors for the YMCA and the Salvation Army in Niagara Falls. He enjoyed woodworking, golfing and following sports, especially hockey and the NY Yankees.
He is survived by his wife, Norma (Marriott) Dick whom he married February 28, 1976; and a nephew, James A. Lawson, III (Sherry Thurber) of Medina, NY. He was predeceased by a sister, Janet Bowman.
Friends may call at HARDISON FUNERAL HOME, N. Fourth & Ridge Streets, Lewiston on Tuesday from 3 - 6 pm. Funeral Services will be held Wednesday, August 14, at 10:30 am in the New Zion Evangelical Presbyterian Church, 10th and Michigan , Niagara Falls, with the Rev. John Timmerman officiating. Entombment will follow in Riverdale Cemetery, Lewiston. Memorials may be made to the New Zion Evangelical Presbyterian Church, 1010 Michigan Ave., Niagara Falls, NY 14305.
