Obituary of Betty Jean Olver

Please share a memory of Betty Jean to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
On June 30, 2013 Betty left for her heavenly home with her daughter Louise by her side. Betty lived a full 88 years of life born to the late Raymond and Della (Henion) Westcott on May 25, 1925. She was the youngest of five children - Olive (Westcott) Fleck, Mildred Westcott, Loran Westcott and Vernon Westcott all who have predeceased her. As a child Betty attended the Lewiston Red Brick School and after graduation from there she went on to Kelly's Business School where she graduated in 1944. She then worked helping her father in his general store in Niagara Falls doing the bookkeeping. Betty enjoyed horseback riding as many did in the area and rode at "The Whitehouse Stable" outside the Village on Ridge Road. Here she met the love of her life Chuck. They were married on January 26, 1946 at the Presbyterian Church in Lewiston. Betty and her husband went on to raise six children in a farm house they purchased and remodeled. Charles (Evie) Olver of Metairie LA, Bruce (Marge) Olver of Ocean Side CA, Nancy (Duffy) Ramage of Boca Raton FL, Louise (Gary) Wasko of Lewiston NY and Gary Olver of New Orleans LA. She was predeceased by a daughter Wendy J. Olver in 2010. She enjoyed camping with her husband and children and after the children had grown she and her husband traveled the U.S. and British Iles and went on many cruises. When her daughters were involved with Girl Scouts she was a troop leader and was one of the leaders that took their troops to Washington D.C. She was a member of the Lewiston Ladies Evening Home Bureau and enjoyed bowling in the Wednesday night Ladies league for many years. In the late 1960's Betty started working part-time for Harris & Lever Florist in Niagara Falls and used her outstanding talent of flower arranging for over 15years. Her husband predeceased her in 1994 and she continued keeping busy delivering meals for the Meals on Wheels Program and volunteering at Mount St. Mary's Hospital until just recently. She was very involved with the Presbyterian Women's group and made countless craft items for their fall bazaars and served on their Board for many years. Betty lived a full life right up till her sudden passing and will be missed by many, especially her 9 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren that she loved so dearly. A memorial service will be held Saturday, August 3rd, 11am at the First Presbyterian Church (505 Cayuga St., Lewiston NY). In lieu of flowers, donations in Betty's memory are asked to be made to the Memorial Fund of the Presbyterian Church of Lewiston.
