Dear Shafer family,
I was so sorry to read the sad news about Mr. Shafer. Please accept my deepest sympathy.
(I lived on Abington Place in N. Tonawanda).
Mr. Shafer took me for rides on his snowmobile. Awesome. I think he helped with emergencies during the Blizzard of '77 also.
He had a car phone, which was very high tech in the 70s!
He would sing when Suzanne and I were in the pool.
I wanted to share these fond memories with you. Mr. Shafer was a nice man and a great neighbor.
Debbie

Starr, Pat and family,
My heart is so sad knowing the grief you are feeling at this time. I remember being at their home with Starr many years ago and how welcome Roy and Pat both made me feel. He was a good man here on earth and as Christians we know he has been delivered from his pain and discomfort. As sad as Roy's passing is, it's comforting to know Suzanne was there to welcome him in.
God bless all of you in this sad time,
Joe and Christine Cole, Davie, Fla.

Great man! One could go years without seeing him and then pick right back up where you left off. Always smiling and full of conversation. We are blessed to know such a fabulous man. Love to all the family. God bless you all.

Roy was a great teacher, task master, and most of all a friend. He taught me about pile driving, our mutual passion, working with others, steady Edie Divine, the jokester and foreman with lots of knowledge Parke Smith, his two favorite welders Art Swickard & Mert Hoffman, and most of all his pal Merritt Sleeper. His life was working for Darling, driving the Merc wagons, requesting help from the shop of both Ray Wirth and Ray Daigler and trying to keep me in line. After he retired from Darling he enjoyed solving shoring problems with old and new friends, selling sheeting for Canadian Rolling Mills and driving his old convertible. Roy, I'll miss you, but have great memories of our time together. Pat, hang in there.

My sincere condolences go out to Roy's family. I am Vince Carafice, I used to work with Roy at Herbert F. Darling, Inc. I was a general foreman that worked under Roy and I always considered him a real special guy. I always believed he knew his business and he was a good guy to work for. May he rest in peace.
