Obituary of Elisabeth L. Schiegg

Elisabeth L. "Liesl" Schiegg, age 90 of Lewiston died Tuesday May 7, 2013 at her daughter's residence in Lewiston, after a brief illness.
Liesl was born September 30, 1922 in Munich, Germany, the daughter of the late August and Cecelia (Hofman) Halbauer. She married Karl Schiegg on September 1, 1943 in Germany and they immigrated to the United States in 1955, settling in Lewiston in 1957. Karl predeceased her in 2002. Liesl had a great enthusiasm for life after surviving and living through WW II in Germany. She enjoyed cooking, gardening, entertaining, and especially the picturesque mountains of Germany. Liesl loved her Bavarian heritage and music, especially yodeling, and maintained a "Bavarian" room in her home. She and her husband owned a Chalet and were members of the Bavarian Farms Community in Holland, NY where they loved to go and entertain on the weekends and ski in the winter.
She is survived by her daughter, Heidi (late Clifton) Gatehouse of Lewiston; she was known as "Oma" to her two grandsons, Clark (Judy) and Christopher Gatehouse and her great grandson, Logan Gatehouse. Also survived by three sisters, Charlotte (late Guenther) Anczok of Sanborn, Erna (Albert) Naslund of Niagara Falls, Ontario; and Cecelia (late Luis) Figueroa of California City, CA; a step brother, August Halbauer of Germany; and several nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews.
A Memorial Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Friday, May 17, at 10:00 AM in St. Peter's RC Church, 600 Center St., Lewiston, with the Rev. Michael Zuffoletto officiating. There is no prior visitation. Flowers are gratefully declined. The family wishes to place a tree or bench within the village of Lewiston in Liesl's memory. Donations may be made for this C/O the Village of Lewiston, PO Box 325, Lewiston, NY. Contributions may also be made to the Lewiston Volunteer Fire Co. #1 Ambulance Fund, 145 N. 6th St. P.O. Box 748, Lewiston, NY 14092. Arrangements have been entrusted to HARDISON FUNERAL HOME, N. Fourth & Ridge Sts., Lewiston.
