Obituary of Allison E. Bernadowicz

Allison E. (Butcher) Bernadowicz, 92, of Lewiston, entered into rest on May 5, 2013 in Niagara Hospice House in Lockport, NY. She was born on August 24, 1920 in Niagara Falls, NY, the daughter of the late Frederick and Amy (Denny) Butcher. Allison attended local schools and graduated from Trott Vocational High School in Niagara Falls. She met her husband, the late Stanley T. Bernadowicz, when he was a member of the 28th Infantry stationed at Ft. Niagara and later married him in St. Patrick Roman Catholic Church in Erie, PA, on May 18, 1938. She formerly worked at the Olin Chemical Corp's Niagara Plant for 10 years and K-Mart for over 15 years. When living in Erie, Pa. she worked at the Hammer Mill Paper Co. for 5 years. Allison had great devotion to Our Blessed Virgin and was a member of Our Lady of the Rosary Catholic Church, Niagara Falls, NY, for over 50 years. She was also a Eucharistic minister for Our Lady of the Rosary Catholic Church for many years. She was a member of their Altar and Rosary Society. She was a member of the American Legion Portage Post, No. 1465 Woman's auxiliary for over 25 years and was a Past 1st Vice-President. She was also a member of the Elks Lodge #346 and the LaSalle Sportsman Club. She was a member of the Mother's Club at St. Mary's of the Cataract School and a Past President of the Mother's Club at Madonna High School. She was a member of the Lewiston Senior's Center where she enjoyed playing bingo and singing in their choral group the Larks. She enjoyed baking for her family and for the bake sales at Our Lady of the Rosary church, knitting, crocheting. She sang in the choir at Our Lady of the Rosary church for 30 years. Over the years she collected over 1000 books that were donated to the Veterans Hospital in Buffalo. On Sundays she and her husband would go to Veterans Hospital to prepare snacks for them, play bingo and write letters for them. She is survived by her daughters, Elizabeth (James) "Krawczyk" Kraws, Amherst, NY, Beverly (Brian) Beebe, Lewiston, NY, June A. Havelka, Pittsburgh, PA. She will be missed greatly by her grandchildren, Beth (Christopher) Baldwin, Barry (Margaret) Beebe, Jeffery (Patricia) Kraws, Danae (Randy) Rush, Heather (Kenneth) Berlew, Elizabeth (Anthony) Venturino, Donald Graham, Jr., and adopted granddaughter Jeanne (Thomas) Frain; great grandchildren, Michelle (Matthew) Harris, Joseph M. Justus, Ashley S. Beebe, Abigail L. Beebe, Trevor Kraws, Benjamin Kraws, Kaitlyn Rush, Jessie Berlew, adopted great grandchild Jacob T. Simon and great great grandchildren Hailey and Addison J. Harris. She was preceded in death by her daughter, Marsha Bernadowicz, August 8,1949, her brothers in law Joseph (Irene) Bernadowicz, Erie PA, Walter (Helen) Bernadowicz, Erie, PA, Harry (Jean) Bernadowicz, Austinburg, OH, and her sister in law Marie (Donald) Boech, Erie, P A. Several nieces and nephews also survive her, she was known to them as Aunt Honey. She will also be missed by Donald Graham, Sr. and Michael Justus. Special thanks for all of their prayers and caring to the Sisters at Stella Niagara, The Lewiston Seniors Club and all of her friends at Lewiston's Apple Granny. A special thanks to her home care Hospice friends, Katie Gannon, Patrick Eagan, Mike Shaw and her home care health aides, Denise Parker and Vickie Jardina and Wendy Shaw and family. A very special thank you to all of her new family, the Niagara Hospice House employees. Family and friends may call at the HARDISON FUNERAL HOME, N. Fourth & Ridge Sts., Lewiston, NY on Friday from 3 to 7 pm. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday, May 11, at 9:30 AM in St. Bernard's RC Church, Hinman & Second Sts., Youngstown, with the Rev. Msgr. Thomas Moran officiating. (Please assemble at the church). Burial will follow in the Gate of Heaven Cemetery, Lewiston, NY. Flowers are gratefully declined.
