Norma M. Brown, age 85 of Lewiston died Wednesday January 30, 2013 in Our Lady of Peace Nursing Care Residence in Lewiston after a brief illness.
Norma was born May 12, 1927 in Wilson, the daughter of the late Herbert and Edith (McKie) Barkow and was a 1945 graduate of Niagara Falls High School. She retired in 1991 as a Senior Social Welfare Examiner from the Niagara County Department of Social Services after 21 years of service. Norma had previously taught at Trinity Lutheran Parochial School in Niagara Falls and at St. Peter Lutheran School in the Town of Cambria. After high school, Norma was employed for a time at the Carborundrum Co. in Niagara Falls.
Norma has lived in Lewiston since 1988. Previous to that she had lived in Ransomville, Niagara Falls, and Youngstown. She is a member of St. John Lutheran Church in Youngstown, the Youngstown and the Lewiston Senior Citizens, and the Lewiston Larks. She enjoyed her family, singing, reading, traveling, ceramics, and playing cards and taking part in the Senior's activities.
She is survived by her children, Mark (Kathleen) Brown of Caledonia, NY, Susan Eastwood of Springfield, VA, David (Betty) Brown of Spanaway, WA, Debbie (Michael) Teague of O'Fallon, IL, and Elizabeth Brown of Lewiston; 8 grandchildren, 2 step grandchildren, and 3 great grandchildren. She was predeceased by her former husband, Norman W. Brown in 1993.
Friends may call at HARDISON FUNERAL HOME, N. Fourth & Ridge Streets, Lewiston on Saturday, February 2, from 4 - 8 pm. (Please note, there will be no visitation on Sunday, February 3) Funeral Services will be held MONDAY, February 4, at 11:00 AM in St. John Lutheran Church, 420 Lockport St., Youngstown, with the Rev. Richard Blemaster officiating.
Burial will be private in St. Peter Lutheran Cemetery, Town of Cambria. In lieu of flowers, Memorials may be made to St. John Lutheran Church.
