Frederick P. Blue, Jr., age 87 formerly of Howard Dr. in Youngstown, died Sunday December 2, 2012 in Our Lady of Peace Nursing Care Residence in Lewiston, where he has been a resident since 2010.
Fred was born November 8, 1925 in Niagara Falls, NY, the son of the late Frederick P., Sr. and Ada (Allen) Blue. He was a 1943 graduate of Niagara Falls High School. In June of 1944 he joined the U.S. Army and served in the European Theatre as a combat infantryman in Co. L of the 8th Infantry. He took part in the Ardennes and Rhineland Campaigns, receiving the WW II Victory Medal and the European African Middle Eastern Theater Ribbon with Two Bronze Battle Stars. Fred was honorably discharged in January of 1946 with the rank of Private First Class.
After his military service he attended the University of Buffalo and received his Pharmaceutical Degree in 1950. He began his career at Stynes Pharmacy in Niagara Falls and then owned and operated Blue's Pharmacy in Deveaux for 11 years. He then worked at Prescription Laboratories in Niagara Falls before joining Coulson's Pharmacy in Lewiston in the late 1970's.
Fred was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Youngstown; a former member of the Niagara Frontier Country Club; a member of the American Pharmaceutical Assoc., Buffalo Chapter; and a former member of V.F.W. Lake Ontario Post #313 in Youngstown. Besides being an avid golfer, he was an avid hunter and fisherman. He enjoyed his family and his grandchildren
He is survived by his wife, Dorothy (Upton) Blue whom he married February 14, 1976; two sons, Frederick P. (Johanna) Blue, III of Youngstown and Scott A. (Rachael) Blue of Saverna Park, MD; his step children, William MacVie of the Town of Wheatfield, Frederick (Nancy) MacVie of Soldatna, Alaska, and Robert (Rhonda) MacVie of Youngstown; eight grandchildren and six great grandchildren. He was predeceased by a sister, Barbara Blue.
A Memorial Service followed by Military Honors will be held Saturday, December 8, at 10:30 am in HARDISON FUNERAL HOME, N. Fourth & Ridge Sts., Lewiston, with the Rev. Dr. Charles Lamb officiating.
