Joseph Paul Retton, Jr., age 64 of Ransomville died Saturday November 10, 2012 at his residence while under the loving care of his family and Niagara Hospice.
Paul was born March 28, 1948 in Fairmont, WV, the son of Ellen (Girod) Retton of Niagara Falls and the late Joseph Paul Retton, Sr. He attended LaSalle Senior High School and enlisted in the U.S. Army on February 18, 1966. He was the recipient of the Vietnam Campaign Medal W/60 Device, the Sharpshooter Badge, the National Defense Service Medal, the Vietnam Service Medal, and the Good Conduct Medal. He was honorably discharged as a SP5 on February 17, 1969. Paul was a Chemical Operator, employed by Niacet Corp. in Niagara Falls, NY for 22 years, retiring in 2010. Previous to that he was employed at Union Carbide for 16 years. He married Elizabeth (Puff) Retton on August 7, 1976 and they moved to Ransomville from the Love Canal area in 1989.
Paul was a member of the United Steel Workers of America Union Local #58 and the Men's Club at Niacet. He attended the Chapel at Crosspoint. Paul enjoyed bowling and bowled at Thunder Bowl in the Industrial League. He also loved to work in his yard, fishing, and watching sports on T.V.
In addition to his wife, Elizabeth, and his mother, Ellen, he is survived by his daughter, Renee Retton of Ransomville; a son, Robert (Theresa) Retton of Sanborn; a granddaughter, Abigail Retton; and a sister, Karen (Barry) McAlee of Niagara Falls, NY. He was predeceased by a daughter, Julie Retton. Paul is also survived by his beloved pet dog "Sunny" who remained by his side throughout his illness.
Friends may call at HARDISON FUNERAL HOME, 3648 Ransomville Road, Ransomville on Monday from 2 - 4 and 7 - 9 PM. Funeral Services followed by Military Honors will be held Tuesday November 13, at 11:00 AM in the Chapel at Crosspoint, 500 Crosspoint Pkwy, Getzville, NY. Please assemble at Church Flowers are gratefully declined.
