Obituary of Katherine R. Hurd

Katherine R. Hurd, age 91 of Youngstown died Wednesday October 31, 2012 in Mt. St. Mary's Hospital in Lewiston. Katherine was born May 25, 1921 in Niagara Falls, NY, the daughter of the late Cornelius and Katherine (Kumpf) Stewart and was a 1939 graduate of Niagara Falls, High School. On April 12, 1947 she married Richard Hurd. They moved to Youngstown in 1950 .Richard predeceased her on June 3, 1972. Katherine worked in the Personnel and Loan Departments at Marine Midland Bank in Niagara Falls for 25 years. She was a member of the Niagara Frontier Bible Church in Lewiston. She enjoyed gardening, reading, and was known as a "Doll Doctor" for her ability to repair dolls. She is survived by a step daughter, Katherine M. (Malcolm) Piercey of Niagara Falls, NY; a foster daughter, Barbara Jo (Joe) Sykes of Provo, UT; a granddaughter, Carolyn Boyle of Medina; and dear friends, Rev. Richard and Lynette Gilbert. She was predeceased by a step daughter, Doris Irene Bedient and a sister, Lillian Stewart. A Memorial service will be held Monday, November 5, at 11:00 AM in the Niagara Frontier Bible Church, Bronson Rd., Lewiston, with the Rev. Richard Gilbert officiating. There will be no prior visitation. Arrangements have been entrusted to HARDISON FUNERAL HOME, N. Fourth & Ridge Sts., Lewiston.
