Edward "Eddie" C. Matson, age 78 of Ransomville died Sunday October 21, 2012 in the Erie County Medical Center in Buffalo, after a long illness.
Eddie was born May 2, 1934 in Brockway, PA, the son of the late Elton L. and Edith J. (Stitt) Matson. He served in the U.S. Army from 1956 to his honorable discharge in 1958. On March 16, 1957 he married Marilyn (Tobey) Matson. Eddie was a Brakeman for the Lehigh Valley Railroad and had worked as a Clerk for the New York Central Railroad. For the next 31years Eddie was employed by GM Harrison Radiator in Lockport. He retired in 1994 as a Relief Operator in the Core Division.
Eddie was a former member and Deacon of the First Presbyterian Church of Lockport as well as a former member of the Eagle Lodge in Lockport. He was a member of the UAW Union #686 Lockport, and the Brotherhood of Railroad Trainmen. He enjoyed golfing, going to Las Vegas, watching auto racing, bowling, and was an avid Buffalo Sabres and Buffalo Bills fan. Most of all, Eddie loved spending time with his family which was most important to him.
He is survived by his wife, Marilyn; his children, Brenda (Marty) Walsh of Niagara Falls, NY, Janet (Patrick) Feeley of Newfane, and Steven E. (April) Matson of Ransomville; his grandchildren, Matthew and Carly Matson, Shannon and Cailynn Feeley; a sister, Mildred (late Lamar) Laborde of Gary, IN; and many nieces, nephews, cousins, and in laws. He was predeceased by six brothers, Clyde, Damon, Ralph, Walter, David, and Bill Matson; four sisters, Marie Pendleton, Edna Johnson, Juanita Snyder, and Irene Lamberson; and his father and mother in law, Granville and Millicent Tobey.
Eddie's family fulfilled his wishes by donating his remains to the University of Buffalo Medical School. A Memorial Service will be held Saturday, October 27, at 11:00 AM in the Ransomville Free Methodist Church, 3924 Ransomville Rd., Ransomville, with the Rev. William Lowery officiating. There will be no prior visitation. Flowers are gratefully declined. Memorials may be made to the Ransomville Vol. Fire Co. The family would like to extend a special thank you to the members and first responders of the Ransomville Volunteer Fire Co. for the compassion and care given to them during the many times they were called upon to assist us.
