Obituary of Elizabeth Beatty

Elizabeth "Jean" Beatty, age 74, longtime resident of Youngstown, died Thursday August 30, 2012 in the Gates Vascular Institute in Buffalo, after a brief illness. Jean was born December 13, 1937 in Niagara Falls, NY, the daughter of the late Charles A. and Marion (Miller) Switzer. She graduated from LaSalle High School in 1955 and received her Bachelor of Arts Degree from Lake Erie College in Painesville, OH. Jean was a Kindergarten Teacher at the Cayuga St. School in Niagara Falls in 1959 and 1960. On April 28, 1961 she married Paul R. Beatty and they resided in Youngstown until moving to Lewiston this past year. Jean was a member of the Lewiston Service Guild; and volunteered with Niagara Hospice, and the heart & Soul Food Pantry. More than anything, Jean enjoyed spending her summers at her cottage in Ontario, Canada surrounded by her children, grandchildren, and extended family. She is survived by her husband, Paul R. Beatty, Sr.; her children, Karen (Peter) Ruero of Youngstown, Linda (Shawn) Wise of Boylston, MA, Paul (Joanne) Beatty, Jr. of Youngstown, Charlotte (Tom) Destino of Asheville, NC, and Steven (Jamie) Beatty of Davison, MI; her grandchildren, Charlie Ruero, Shawn Jr., Patrick, and Mary Kate Wise, Paul III, Lindsay, Katie, and Joseph Beatty, Alex, Anna, and Max Destino, Melissa and Michelle Beatty; a brother, Charles A. (Martha) Switzer of Grand Island; a sister, Joyce Switzer of Lewiston; and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by a brother, Edward Switzer and two sisters, Muriel Bauer and Mildred Switzer. Friends may call at HARDISON FUNERAL HOME, N. Fourth & Ridge Streets, Lewiston on Monday from 4 - 8 pm. A Memorial Service will be held Tuesday, September 4, at 11:00 AM in St. Paul's Episcopal Church, 400 Ridge St., Lewiston.
