Obituary of Edwin G. Haungs

Edwin G. Haungs, age 88 of Lewiston, died Wednesday October 7, 2009 at his residence under the loving care of his family and Niagara Hospice. Edwin was born June 23, 1921 in Buffalo, NY, the son of the late George M. and Catherine (Ott) Haungs. He was a 1939 graduate of Trott Vocational High School in Niagara Falls. Edwin was a Veteran of WW II. He served as an X-ray Technician in the U.S. Army Air Corps from 1942 to his honorable discharge with the rank of Sergeant in 1946. He was the recipient of the American Service Medal, the Good Conduct Medal, and the WW II Victory Medal. On June 18, 1949 he married Margaret L. (Mason) Haungs in Sacred Heart Church in Niagara Falls and they moved to Lewiston in 1958. Margaret predeceased him on November 14, 2002. Edwin was a Pressman in the Research and Development Dept. of Moore Business Forms in Grand Island for 43 years retiring in 1982. He was a member of the Moore Business Forms Retirees and a communicant of St. Peter's RC Church in Lewiston. Edwin was an avid fisherman and loved to garden. Always friendly and outgoing, his friends were always welcome to stop and visit with him. He is survived by a daughter, Joan (Daniel) Meyers of the Town of Wheatfield; a son, John E. (Sally) Haungs of Rochester, NY; his grandchildren, Jennifer (Eric) Hardman, Jeffrey (Chrissy) Meyers, James Meyers, Scott and Kristen Haungs; his great grandchildren , Steven, Samantha, and Seth Meyers, and Kaylynn Hardman; two sisters, Ruth Haungs of Melbourne, FL and Rita Larson of Grant, FL; a brother, George (Martha) Haungs of Rochester, NY; a brother in law, William Fay of Wildwood, FL, a brother and sister in law, Bill (Ellen) Mason , and a sister in law, Dorothy Liddell. She was predeceased by two sisters, Catherine Fay and Lorraine Hambrock. Friends may call at HARDISON FUNERAL HOME, N. Fourth & Ridge Streets, Lewiston, on Friday from 2 - 4 and 7 - 9 PM. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday, October 10, at 10:00 AM in St. Peter's RC Church, 600 Center St., Lewiston, with the Rev. Sebastian C. Pierro officiating. Entombment will follow in Holy Angels Mausoleum, Gate of Heaven Cemetery, Lewiston. In lieu of flowers, Memorials may be made to Niagara Hospice, 4675 Sunset Dr., Lockport, NY 14094.
