Obituary of Donald E. Wellar, Jr.

Donald E. "Donnie" Wellar, Jr., age 57 of Wilson, went to the arms of his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on Tuesday May 8, 2012 in the Erie County Medical Center in Buffalo, after a lengthy illness. Donnie was born October 19, 1954 in Niagara Falls, NY, the son of Mary (O'Donnell) Wellar of Niagara Falls and the late Donald E. Wellar. He was a 1972 graduate of Niagara Falls High School and had attended Niagara County Community College for accounting. Donnie married Sue (Johnson) Wellar on December 25, 1985 and they have resided in Wilson the past 18 years. For 26 years Donnie took care of "God's special gifts" as a member of the Direct Support Staff at Rivershore, Inc. in Lewiston. This showcased the true heart of this man. Donnie's first love was God and the gift that He gave by His Son, Jesus Christ. That love bled into all his friends and family that surrounded him. Donnie loved to bring joy to the people around him through the language of music. He was a member of the Victory Christian Church in Lockport and he would want you to know that worship is the highway of reverence. In addition to his wife and mother, he is survived by a daughter, Amy Hass and her fiancé Steven Dempsey of Sanford, FL; a son, Garrett Wellar of Wilson; two sisters, Brenda Wellar of Niagara Falls and Sandra (Richard) Lutz of North Tonawanda; his father and mother in law, Roy and Jayne Johnson of Ransomville; and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a brother, Mark Wellar. Friends may call at HARDISON FUNERAL HOME, 3648 Ransomville Road, Ransomville on Friday from 4 - 8 pm. Funeral Services will be held Saturday, May 12, at 10:00 AM in the funeral home, with the Rev. Ron Freiderdorf officiating. Flowers are gratefully declined.
