Obituary of Marjorie J. Oakes

Marjorie J. Oakes, age 76 of Ransomville died at her daughter's residence on her birthday, April 18, 2012, under the loving care of her family and Niagara Hospice after a courageous six year battle with cancer. Marjorie was born April 18, 1936 in Erie, PA, the daughter of the late Herman and Jessie (Stancliff) Werren and was a 1954 graduate of Edinboro High School. She married Charles W. Oakes on November 20, 1954 and they moved to the Town of Porter in 1964. Charles predeceased her on August 23, 2006. Marjorie was a 30 year member of the former Dickersonville United Methodist Church and currently a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Youngstown. She was also a member of Lazy Lake Campground. Marjorie enjoyed craft shows, traveling and camping, volunteering at the First Presbyterian Church of Youngstown, and spending time with family and friends She is survived by a son, David (Diane) Oakes of Barker, NY; a daughter, Sarah (John) MacArthur of Ransomville; her grandchildren, Jennifer Oakes, Tyler MacArthur, and Samantha Siebert; and two sisters, Reva Baker of Edinboro, PA and Barbara (Ray) Lasher of Cranesville, PA. She was predeceased by a son, Michael Oakes. A Memorial Service will be held Saturday, May 26, 2012, at 11:00 AM in the First Presbyterian Church of Youngstown, with the Rev. Rex Stewart officiating. There will be no prior visitation. Memorials may be made to Niagara Hospice, 4675 Sunset Dr., Lockport, NY 14094 or to the First Presbyterian Church of Youngstown, 100 Church St., Youngstown, NY 14174.
