Obituary of Joan E. Lehmann

Joan E. Lehmann, age 82 of Lewiston died Tuesday February 28, 2012 in Our Lady of Peace Nursing Residence in Lewiston, after a courageous battle with cancer. Joan was born November 21, 1929 in Niagara Falls, NY, the daughter of the late Leo Carl and Evelyn (Carroll) Mathews and was a 1947 graduate of Niagara Falls High School. On October 23, 1954 she married Charles F. Lehmann and they have resided in Lewiston since then. In the 1950's Joan worked at Beirs Department Store. She then was employed by the Niagara Permanent Savings Bank in Niagara Falls for 10 years. After raising her family, she returned to work at the Lewiston Child Care Center in the mid 1980's for 3 years. Joan was a communicant of St. Bernard's RC Church in Youngstown and a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution. She enjoyed Ballroom dancing, fine dining, and shopping. Joan especially loved spending time with her family and grandchildren, and decorating her home for them on the holidays. She is survived by her husband, Charles; her children, Carroll (Howard) Krieger of Youngstown, Patrick C. Lehmann and Cynthia (Daniel) Carden both of Lewiston, Kelly (Mark) Dragone of Youngstown, and Constance (Peter) Depowski of Erie, PA; her grandchildren, Krista Lehmann, Paul Beatty, III, Lindsay Beatty, Dominic and Anthony Dragone, Mathew Carden, Abigail and Gabrielle Depowski; her step grandsons, Derek and Christopher Carden; and a brother, Patrick Mathews of Phoenix, AZ. She was predeceased by a brother, Carl Mathews, Jr. Joan's family would like to gratefully acknowledge the wonderful, compassionate, and genuine care extended to her and her family while under the care of Our Lady of Peace Residence and their extraordinary staff. Friends may call at HARDISON FUNERAL HOME, N. Fourth & Ridge Streets, Lewiston on Thursday from 7 - 9 PM and Friday from 2 - 4 and 7 - 9 PM. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday, March 3, at 10:00 AM in St. Bernard's RC Church, Second & Hinman Sts., Youngstown, with the Rev. Msgr. Thomas Moran officiating. (Please assemble at Church). Entombment will follow in Gate of Heaven Cemetery, Lewiston.
