Obituary of Donna Rae Ogg

Donna Rae {Hurst] Ogg, 76, of Lewiston, New York, passed away on Saturday, February 18, 2012, after a courageous battle with cancer, surrounded by her loving family and under the care of Niagara Hospice. She was born on July 19, 1935 in Manor, Pennsylvania, the first daughter of the late Joseph D. and Betty J. (Davis) Hurst. She was the first in her family to attend college, graduating from the University of Pittsburgh in 1957 with a degree in English. August 10, 1957, she married Alvin C. Ogg, whom she met while attending Pitt. Shortly after, Donna went to work as an English teacher at South Junior High School in Niagara Falls. She then served as Public Relations Director for the Niagara County Girl Scouts and was a co-founder of HART Interfaith in Lewiston, NY. She was an active member of the Presbytery of Western New York; serving as a Moderator of the Presbytery, Church Administrator for the First Presbyterian Church of Lewiston, Christian Education Director for the First Presbyterian Church of Buffalo and Clerk of Session, Elder and member of numerous committees at the First Presbyterian Church of Youngstown. She was also an environmental activists working with the Ecumenical Task Force during Love Canal and most recently as a member of Residents for Responsible Government. In addition to her husband of 54 years, she is survived by her daughters Diane L. (Mark) Johnson of Lewiston, NY and Cynthia L. (Michael) Kline of Grand Island, NY. She was the loving grandmother of Stephen O. and Kaitlyn L. Johnson and Khristian C. Kline. She is also survived by her sister Linda H. (Rowland) New of New Market, MD and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her sister Neila H. Sloan of Cleveland, OH. A Memorial Service will be held Saturday, March 17, 2012, at the First Presbyterian Church of Youngstown, 100 Church St., Youngstown at 11:00 am with the Reverend Dr. Rex T. Stewart and Reverend Dr. Charles F. Lamb officiating. Interment will be at the convenience of the family at Oakland Rural Cemetery. Arrangements were entrusted to HARDISON FUNERAL HOME, N. Fourth & Ridge Sts., Lewiston. Flowers are gratefully declined. If desired, memorials may be made to the First Presbyterian Church of Youngstown.
