Obituary of Aloysius Mitchell

Aloysius Mitchell, age 97 formerly of Creek Rd. Lewiston, Saturday February 11, 2012 in Mt. St. Mary's Hospital in Lewiston after a lengthy illness.
Mr. Mitchell was born September 29, 1914 in Niagara Falls, NY, the son of the late John and Stella (Rachwal) Mitchell. He graduated from Niagara Falls High School and received his B.S. in Chemistry from the University of Buffalo. Mr. Mitchell was employed by Hooker Chemical Co. in Niagara Falls for many years where he served as Foreign Patent Assistant in their research department. During WW II he contributed to the Development of the Atomic Bomb with the Manhattan Project in Oakridge, TN. He received a commendation from the Secretary of War for his significant achievements. On March 1, 1947 he married Mary (Shuley) Mitchell and they lived in Lewiston for many years. Mary predeceased him on July 30, 2009.
Mr. Mitchell was member of St. Peter's RC Church in Lewiston, a member of the Oxy Retirees, and former member of the Lewiston Loyal Order of Moose.
He is survived by two nephews, Dennis R. (Pamela) Karski of Youngstown and Norman (Denise) Orzel of Wilson; and a niece, Judith (Keith) Robinson of Newark, DE. He was predeceased by two sisters, Freda Karski and Isabelle Orzel.
Funeral and Committal Services will be held Wednesday, February 15, at 10:00 AM in the Gate of Heaven Cemetery, Holy Angels Mausoleum, Lewiston, with the Rev. Michael Zuffoletto officiating. There will be no prior visitation. Flowers are gratefully declined. Memorials may be made to the Lewiston Volunteer Fire Co. #1 Ambulance Fund, 145 N. 6th St. P.O. Box 748, Lewiston, NY 14092. Arrangements have been entrusted to HARDISON FUNERAL HOME, N. Fourth & Ridge Sts., Lewiston.
