Nina Nichols

Nina T. Nichols, age 96, of the Town of Lewiston, NY, died in Our Lady of Peace Health Care Residence on Friday, November 25, 2011. Mrs. Nichols was born November 23, 1915 in the Town of Wilson, NY, the daughter of Clarence and Hazel (Hopkins) Truesdale. She was a 1932 graduate of Wilson High School and received her B.A. degree from Keuka College in 1936. On November 28, 1936 she married Cameron E. Nichols, and they began farming in South Wilson. In 1949 they moved to the Town of Lewiston where she helped her husband run the family farm until his death, April 10, 1970. For several years in the 1960s she was a substitute teacher at the Lewiston-Porter School District. Mrs. Nichols was descended from two pioneer families, the Hopkins and the Ransoms, the founding family of the Hamlet of Ransomville. She was an active member of the Ransomville Baptist Church where she had served as deacon and clerk. She was also a member of the Ransomville Rural Retirees and had volunteered at the Ransomville Historical Society. She enjoyed reading, gardening, travel, and baking. She is survived by her children, David C. (Jeanette) Nichols of Lewiston, John P. (Carol) Nichols of College Station, TX, Sue (Ronald) Mirabelli of Lewiston, and Nina Ann (Floyd) Ray of Avon Park, FL; her grandchildren, Sarah, Cameron and Andrew (Sarah) Nichols, Catherine (Daniel) Tralmer, Stephen (Leyla) Nichols, Amy Nichols, Dr. Mark (Kathleen) Mirabelli, and Elizabeth (Brian) Scully; and her great- grandchildren, Christopher and Macy Tralmer, Arri Nichols, Jack and James Scully, and Julia Mirabelli. She was predeceased by a sister, Ruth Townsend. Friends may call at HARDISON FUNERAL HOME, 3648 Ransomville Road, Ransomville on Thursday, from 4 to 8 pm. Funeral services will be held Friday, Dec.2, at 11am at the Ransomville Baptist Church, Youngstown Lockport Road, Ransomville with the Rev. Richard Gorrow Jr. officiating. Burial will follow in the North Ridge Cemetery, Town of Cambria. Memorials may be made to Ransomville Baptist Church Memorial Fund, PO Box 96, Ransomville, NY 14131.
