Obituary of Edward Wojcik

Edward Wojcik, 90, of Youngstown, NY, died in Mount St. Mary's Hospital, Lewiston, on Sunday, October 2, 2011, after a short illness. Born in Niagara Falls on July 29, 1921 to Stanley and Josephine (Dworak) Wojcik and in his early education years attended Holy Trinity RC School, and graduated from Niagara Falls High School. Edward served with the Civilian Conservation Corps. from 1937-1940. In 1942 he enlisted in the US Army and served in the Co. K 325th Glider Infantry. He was utilized in two invasions, Normandy and Holland, served overseas for 24 months in England, France, Holland, Belgium and Germany. Wounded in action twice and received the Purple Heart and one Oak Leaf Cluster. In addition, he received the WWII Victory Medal, Good Conduct Medal, American Service Medal, Distinguished Unit Badge, European-African-Middle Eastern Service Medal with BZ Arrowhead. He was honorably discharged on November 18, 1945. After WWII he returned to school and graduated from ECC with a degree in Electronic Technology. Ed worked at various plants in Niagara Falls for many years before being employed at the Ford Stamping Plant in Blasdell, NY, from 1972 until his retirement in 1989, as a Instrumentation Technician. On April 12, 1947, he was married to Eugenia Holody. Edward was a member of St. Bernard's RC Church, Youngstown, a member of the 82nd Airborne Assoc. & the Portage Post American Legion. He enjoyed being a handyman, but mostly loved taking care of his family. In addition to his wife, Eugenia, he is survived by three sons, Martin Wojcik, Edward E. Wojcik, both of Youngstown, and Andrew J. (Patty) Wojcik of Cumming, GA; four grandchildren, Morgan E., Lindsay C., Caylen E. (Beth) and Peter Wojcik; one great-grandchild, Luke Wojcik; one step-great-granddaughter, Emma; and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a son, Stephen S. Wojcik, who passed away on December 13, 1982; one brother, Chester Wojcik and three sisters, Frances Kukulka, Casimira Skurzewski and Adele Wojcik. A Memorial Mass will be held from St. Bernard's RC Church, Second and Hinman Sts., Youngstown on Thursday, October 6th at 10:00 AM, with Msgr. Thomas Moran officiating, with Military Honors. Burial will be private at the convenience of the family. No prior visitation. Flowers are gratefully declined. Memorials may be made to the Youngstown Volunteer Fire Co. Ambulance Fund, P.O. Box 387, Youngstown, NY 14174, or to any Disabled American Veterans organization. Arrangements have been entrusted to the HARDISON FUNERAL HOME.
