Yvonne D. "Onie" Smithson, age 91 of Ransomville , died Wednesday evening, September 28, 2011 in Mt. St. Mary's Hospital in Lewiston.
Onie was born July 4, 1920 in Wilson, NY, the daughter of the late Francis H. and Elizabeth (Giles) Duxbury and was Valedictorian of the Wilson High School Graduating Class of 1937. She was an accomplished soloist, and had taught piano and voice lessons for many years. Onie had performed for many special occasions throughout Niagara County.
She was the Choir Director of the Ransomville Baptist Church for 60 years and was still serving as the Clerk of the church at the time of her death. She was totally devoted to her family, her grandchildren, and her church. Onie was also an avid NY Yankee fan.
Her first husband, W. Milford Parker died in 1970. He second husband, Donald R. Smithson died on December 7, 2007. She is survived by her children, Thomas G. (Pamela) Parker of Ransomville and Margaret (Mark) Boling of Wilson; her stepchildren, Sue Anne (Kim) Kershner of Grand Island, NY and David (Sue Ann) Smithson of Brockport, NY; her grandchildren, Elton (Elizabeth) and Matthew (Jessica) Parker, Sarah (Jason) Woolson, Amanda and Stephen Parker (Katie), and MaryAnn (Bryan) Murphy; and 7 great grandchildren. She was predeceased by a son, Stephen G. (Debbie) Parker.
Friends may call at HARDISON FUNERAL HOME, 3648 Ransomville Road, Ransomville on Sunday from 2 - 4 and 7 - 9 PM. Funeral Services will be held Monday, October 3, at 11:00 AM in the Ransomville Baptist Church, Youngstown Lockport Rd., Ransomville, with the Rev. Richard D. Gorrow, Jr. officiating. Burial will follow in North Ridge Cemetery, Church Rd. Town of Cambria. Memorials may be made to the Ransomville Baptist Church, PO Box 96, Ransomville, NY 14131.
