Obituary of Peter J. Gillespie

Peter J. Gillespie, age 73 of Lewiston. died Tuesday May 24, 2011 in Mt. St. Mary's Hospital in Lewiston, after a lengthy illness.
Peter was born July 6, 1937 in Boston, MA, the son of the late John J. and Dorothy (Kelly) Gillespie. He attended Boston Latin and graduated from Weymouth High School in 1956. Afterwards he attended Northeastern University for Electrical Engineering. He has been a resident of Lewiston since the 1960's when he began his employment as an Electronic Technician with the NY State Power Authority. Peter retired in 1994 after 30 years of service.
On July 1, 1958 Peter was elected by Company A, 12 Regiment, to rank of 2nd Lieutenant, as a member of the National Society of Pershing Rifles. He was a member of Holy Ghost Lutheran Church in Niagara Falls. Peter loved fishing, bowling and his computer games. He enjoyed walking his two "M & M' pet dogs.
He is survived by his wife, Mary (Gignac) Gillespie, whom he married on December 1, 1991;
his children, Mary Anne (Kevin) Nasca, Kathy Stevens, Mary Ann (Michael) Martindale, Donna McGilley, James M. (Sandra) Gillespie, and Jennifer (Dana) Harrington; his grandchildren, Carol Anne (Richard) Thurnherr, Julie Nasca, Sandra Marks, Nicole Merrill, Christopher Martindale, Kalli and Brandon McGilley, Lindsay Gillespie; and a brother, Walter (Mary) Gillespie. He was predeceased by a son, Peter J. Gillespie, a grandson, Jeffrey A. Gillespie and a brother, Francis Gillespie.
Friends may call at HARDISON FUNERAL HOME, N. Fourth & Ridge Streets, Lewiston on Tuesday, May 31, from 4 - 7 PM A Memorial Service will follow at 7:00 PM in the funeral home, with the Rev. Philip Sallach officiating. In lieu of flowers, Memorials may be made to Niagara Hospice, 4675 Sunset Dr., Lockport, NY 14094.
