Lewiston, John Piva, age 86 of Lewiston, died Wednesday May 4, 2011 at his residence under the loving care of his family and Niagara Hospice, after a lengthy illness. John was born May 19, 1924 in Vedelago, Italy, the son of the late Antonio and Maria (Baldin) Piva. He served in the Italian Navy during WW II and immigrated to Niagara Falls, Ontario after the war. John became a U.S. Citizen in 1954 and settled in Lewiston in 1958. On December 2, 1952 he married Lois M. (Brant) Piva. He retired in 1986 as Head Janitor for the New York State Power Authority after 23 years of service. John was a member of St. Peter's RC Church in Lewiston. A self taught man, he will be remembered as a hard worker and loving family man. He is survived by his beloved wife, Lois; his children, Richard (Adrienne) Piva of Ransomville, Daniel (Tami) Piva of Youngstown, Ronald Piva and Sandra Piva both of Lewiston, David (Deborah) Piva of Lockport, and Susan Kinkaid of Niagara Falls, NY; his grandchildren, Ryan, Brandon, Gina, James, Matthew, Hannah, Emily, and Samantha; two brothers, Antonio Jr. and Albino Piva both of Italy. He was predeceased by 4 sisters and 8 brothers. Friends may call at HARDISON FUNERAL HOME, N. Fourth & Ridge Streets, Lewiston on Friday, May 6, from 4 - 7:30 pm followed by a prayer service at 7:30 pm. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Niagara Hospice, 4675 Sunset Dr., Lockport, NY 14094.
