Donald R. "Bud" Jackson, age 82 of Niagara Falls NY, died Wednesday April 27, 2011 in Niagara Hospice House in Lockport, after a brief illness. Bud was born December 1, 1928 in Buffalo, NY, the son of the late Arthur and Florence (Higgins) Jackson McBride and he lived most of his life in Niagara Falls and Lewiston. He was a graduate of the Red Brick School in Lewiston and received a B.S. in Education from Buffalo State Teachers College. A Korean War Veteran, Bud served in the U.S. Air Force from 1950 to 1956 when he was honorably discharged with the rank of Staff Sergeant. He was a Ground Radar Operator attached to the 405th Communications Squadron. He was the recipient of the Korean Service Medal, the United Nations Service Medal, the 7,8 & 9 Battle Star KSM, the National Defense Service Medal, the Good Conduct Medal and the Japanese Occupation Medal. For 25 years Bud was employed by the New York State Parks Dept. as a Groundskeeper at Ft. Niagara in Youngstown. He was a life member of the V.F.W. Lower River Post #7487 in Lewiston; a member of the American Legion; and a member of the 3-F Conservation Club. Bud was an avid photographer and birdwatcher. He is survived by his brother, Richard (Anne) Jackson of Youngstown; his nieces and nephews, Michael (Lisa) Jackson, Sheri Jackson, Kevin Jackson, and Colleen Jackson all of Lewiston, Debbie (Kevin) Selkregg of Jamestown, NY and Timothy (Cindy) Jackson of California; and several great nieces and nephews. Friends may call at HARDISON FUNERAL HOME, N. Fourth & Ridge Streets, Lewiston on Friday from 4 - 8 pm. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday, April 30, at 10:00 AM in St. Bernard's RC Church, Hinman & Second Sts., Youngstown, with the Rev. Msgr. Thomas Moran officiating. (Please assemble at Church). Burial with Military Honors will follow in Dickersonville Cemetery, Lewiston. Memorials may be made to Niagara Hospice, 4675 Sunset Dr., Lockport, NY 14094.
