William F. Lynch, age 84 of Youngstown NY, died Friday April 15, 2011 in Our Lady of Peace Nursing Residence in Lewiston, after a short illness.
William was born November 9, 1926 in Buffalo, NY, the son of the late John F. and Marie (McCormick) Lynch. He graduated from Niagara University in 1948 and the University of Buffalo Law School in 1951. During WW II he served in the U.S. Army Air Corps from 1944 to his honorable discharge in November of 1945. William was employed by the former Hooker Chemical Corporation from 1951 to 1967 as Manager of Industrial Relations of the Industrial Chemicals Division, headquartered in Niagara Falls, NY and as Corporate Manager of Labor Relations in New York City. In 1967 he joined the Alloys Division of Airco Inc. as Director of Industrial Relations. He represented management in over 300 labor contract negotiations and arbitration cases in the United States and Canada. In 1979 until he retired in 1988, he was Assistant Professor of Economics and Labor Relations in the College of Business Administration of Niagara University.
William was awarded the Commission of Kentucky Colonel, the highest honor awarded by the Commonwealth of Kentucky. Commissions for Kentucky Colonels are given by the Governor and the Secretary of State to individuals in recognition of noteworthy accomplishments and outstanding service to their community, state or the nation.
He was a former member of the Youngstown Yacht Club, the Niagara Club, and several bar associations. William is survived by his wife of 60 years, Phyllis M. (Wagner) Lynch; two children, Kathryn M. (Joseph) Fabian of Lewiston and John A. (Carla) Lynch of Youngstown; four grandchildren, John and Connor Lynch, Katie and Lauren Fabian.
