Obituary of Gladys L. Mc Duffe

Gladys Lorene (Gifford) Mc Duffe, age 96 of Lewiston NY, died Sunday March 27, 2011 in the Fairchild Manor Nursing Home in Lewiston, after a lengthy illness. Gladys was born June 12, 1914 in Rochester, NY, the daughter of the late Chauncey L. and Emma (Duthe) Gifford. She graduated from Niagara Falls High School and from the Kelly Business Institute as a Bookkeeper. In 1940 she married G. Milton Mc Duffe and they built a home on Whitney Ave. in Niagara Falls. Milton predeceased her in 1968 and Gladys moved to Lewiston in 1976. Gladys was employed as a bookkeeper by Krueger Pontiac in Niagara Falls from 1933 to 1951. From 1952 to 1972 she owned and operated Duthe's Market in Niagara Falls. In 1972 she was employed as a bookkeeper at Bob Krueger Chevrolet in Ransomville until her retirement in 1984. Gladys was a member of the Town of Lewiston Senior Center. Her hobbies included crossword puzzles, counted cross-stitch, knitting, crocheting and many types of arts and crafts. Gladys was affectionately known to many as "Auntie Glady" She was predeceased by a brother, Edwin L. Gifford and two sisters, Berenice L. Diez and Evelyn G. Dale. "Auntie Glady" is survived by several nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews, and great great nieces and nephews. At Gladys's request there will be no visitation and burial will be private at the convenience of the family. A Celebration of Life Service will be held on Saturday, April 2, at 11:00 AM in the Pendleton Center United Methodist Church, 6864 Campbell Blvd., North Tonawanda, NY with Gladys's niece, Holly Coty, officiating. Flowers are gratefully declined.
