Obituary of Olive I. Sayers

Olive I. Sayers, age 94, of Youngstown, NY, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, October 8, 2024, at Sisters of Charity Hospital. Born Olive I. Layman on August 24, 1930, in Rosemont, West Virginia, she was the daughter of Charles William and Frankie Elizabeth (née Rush) Layman.
Olive married Robert C. Sayers on August 19, 1949, in Clarksburg, WV. In 1966, they were transferred and the family moved from Bridgeport, WV to Youngstown. Olive found joy in oil painting, crafts, sewing and camping. She and her husband turned a hobby of making porcelain dolls into a small business, "Dols by Olive." Upon retirement, Olive and Robert traveled the United States in their motorhome.
Olive was recognized as an Outstanding Young Woman of America in 1964, with the book still housed in the Library of Congress.
She will always be remembered as witty, with an totally unexpected smart comeback. She was affectionately dubbed "GG Cool" (Great Grandma Cool) by her great-grandchildren and "The Energizer Bunny" by her neighbors.
Besides her parents and siblings, Olive is predeceased by her husband of 67 years and her son-in-law, Douglas Krell Sr.
Olive is survived by her three loving daughters, Debra (Alex) Padowski, Karen (Ron Seftick) Loveland, and Kathy Krell; five cherished grandchildren, Sandra Root, Robert Padowski, Jamie (Shawn) Hasenstab, Douglas Krell, and Katelynn (Drew) Brigham; five adored great-grandchildren, Ashton, Cassidy, Mara, Zahm, and Alex. She is also survived by her dear brother John (Florence) Layman, as well as many nieces and nephews.
The family will be present to receive friends on Monday, October 14, 2024, from 3-7 pm at Hardison Funeral Homes, Inc., N. Fourth & Ridge Streets, Lewiston, where funeral services will be held on Tuesday, October 15, 2024, at 10 AM. Rev. Bonnie LaValley officiating. Interment will follow in North Ridge Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in Olive's memory to FeedMore WNY Foundation - Meal Services, 100 James E. Casey Drive, Buffalo, NY 14206.
