Durwood H. Bendt

Durwood H. Bendt, age 94, of Wilson, NY, entered into eternal rest on Monday, July 22, 2024 at Northgate Manor of North Tonawanda, NY. Born January 31, 1930, in Wilson, NY, the son of the late Howard J. and Nellie W. (nee Smalling) Bendt.

Mr. Bendt was a graduate of Wilson High School. Following graduation, he was drafted into the Army in 1951, serving as a Private First Class in the country's capital. He married the former Helen J. Wilson on November 29, 1968 at St. Peter's Lutheran Church at Northridge. Helen passed in 2003 after 35 years of marriage.

Durwood worked for 46 years as a drafting designer at Continental Can which later became Smurfit Stone. He was an avid hunter and fisherman. Loved to farm his property. Mr. Bendt was a lifetime member of South Wilson Fire Company and helped create the women's auxiliary. He was a member of the Wilson Conservation Club, but most importantly, he was a proud grandfather, who enjoyed attending his grandson's sporting events as well as most Wilson High School games, cheering on the Lakeman.

Mr. Bendt is survived by his loving children, Jude (Carolina) Bendt and Joy (Jeffrey) Dabill; cherished grandchildren, Cameron and Drew Dabill.

The family will be present to receive friends on Sunday, July 28, 2024 from 3-7 PM at the HARDISON FUNERAL HOMES, INC., 3648 Ransomville Road, Ransomville, where Funeral Services will be held on Monday, July 29, 2024 at 11 AM. Friends invited.

If desired, memorials may be made in Durwood's memory to the South Wilson Fire Company or the Wilson Conservation Club.
