Mary E (Buttery) Furnace, 91, of Appleton, NY passed peacefully at home on May 14, 2024.
Mary was born in Lewiston, NY, the eighth of ten children to the late Frank H. and Grace A. (Nickerson) Buttery, on May 11, 1933. She attended school in Youngstown and was one of the first to walk across the stage at Lewiston Porter High School when she graduated in 1952. She married the late Lee W. Furnace on May 16, 1964.
She worked as a meat wrapper at Acme Markets in Niagara Falls, ran the Country Kernal Restaurant in Youngstown for several years, and worked as a dietary aide at Old Lady of Peace in Lewiston for several years before retiring in April of 2010. She enjoyed spending time with her family, and rooting for her Josh and the Buffalo Bills.
She will be remembered for being our beloved Mama, Nana, and G-Nana, always being there for us, her strength in difficult times, her amazing potato salad and deviled eggs, and her beautiful blue eyes.
Mary is survived by her two daughters, Patricia Lee Rohring (Kevin Kennedy) of Appleton and Pamela Mary Levering of Newfane. She was Nana to four grandsons Cody Rohring (Sabrina Fuller) of Newfane, Jesse Rohring (Jessica) of Barker, Marshall Rohring (Kate Mazurkiewicz) of Appleton, and Dylan Rohring (Cassi Mauk) of Appleton, and two granddaughters Lauren Smith (Sam) of Rochester and Alissa Zwelling of Newfane; G-Nana to five great-grandchildren Tyler, Jayden, Eli, Jameson, RJ, and Ryleigh. She is also survived by a step-daughter Cheryl (David) Wilkins of Wilson, several step-grandchildren and great-grandchildren, a brother Robert (Leronna) Buttery of St. Catharines, ONT, several nieces and nephews, and several wonderful friends including Eileen Yarussi and Pat Zahno.
Besides her parents and her husband, she was also Nana to and preceded in death by a grandson Lee Johnson, a step-son Stephen (Shirley) Furnace, four brothers Wilbur, Lewis, John and Donald Buttery, and four sisters Mildred (Crewe), Ruth (Myers), Loretta (Canfield) and Jeanette (Mattoon).
A private service was held at Hardison Funeral Home on Friday, May 17th at 11:00. Burial followed at North Ridge Cemetery, Lockport, NY. A reading of scripture and prayer were said by her sister-in-law Leronna (Robert) Buttery.
The family wishes to extend their gratitude to Dr. Clerk who was Mary's physician for over thirty years.
Memorial donations may be made to The Children's Hospital of Buffalo Foundation, Buffalo, NY and Niagara County Hospice, Lockport, NY.
