Obituary of Sharon L Sloniger

Sharon L. Sloniger, 64, of Penn Yan, NY, formerly of Youngstown, NY, passed away Monday, February 21, 2011, peacefully, surrounded by her family and friends at the Keuka Comfort Care Home, Penn Yan, NY, following a brave and courageous battle with cancer. Sharon was born September 10, 1946 in Niagara Falls, NY to Helen (Chmaj) Ziblut of Geneva, NY and the late Stanley Ziblut. Sharon graduated from LaSalle High School, Niagara Falls in 1964 and then graduated from the Eastern Michigan University in 1968, with a bachelor's degree in Occupational Therapy. She began working at Mount St. Mary's Hospital, Lewiston from 1970-1972, and then was the Occupational Therapist at Mt. View Health Facility, Lockport from 1972-1998, and continued to be a consultant until 2001. Sharon touched numerous lives and especially loved working with the elderly. She enjoyed sewing, crafts, spending time with her grandsons, camping, watching the Buffalo Bills and bowling. She lived life with exuberance and was an optimist with a fantastic sense of humor to the very end. Sharon will be deeply missed by her daughters, Catherine Sloniger and Susan (Joseph) Reed, both of Penn Yan, NY; her grandsons, Edward and Andrew Reed; her mother, Helen Ziblut; four siblings, Mary Ann (Emil) Ciccoretti of Pinehurst, NC, John (Betty) Ziblut of Southport, NC, Patricia (Ronald) Kauffman of Ashburn, VA, and Stanley (Barbara) Ziblut of Oshkosh, WI; her mother and father-in-law, Grace and William King; and many beloved nieces, nephews and her pets, Megan and Sally. She joins in heaven her beloved husband of 38 years, Edward C. Sloniger, who died tragically May 27, 2009; their son, Gary Sloniger; her Goddaughter, Helen Elizabeth Kauffman; and her father, Stanley Ziblut. Friends may call at the HARDISON FUNERAL HOME, 3648 Ransomville Rd., Ransomville, Thursday from 4-8 PM. Funeral service will be held Friday (Feb. 25) at 10:00 AM, with Rev. Susan Keppy officiating. Burial in Oakland Rural Cemetery, Youngstown. In lieu of flowers, please make memorial donation to the Keuka Comfort Care Home, P.O. Box 107, Penn Yan, NY 14527.
